17 year old Anita Star Rockett of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a student. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Satterfield will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She is survived by her mother, Rebecca Neal Crank of Smithville; her father, Darris Norvell Rockett of Nashville; a sister and brother-in-law, Hannah and Tim Burton of Smithville; and her maternal grandmother, Evie Sue Walker of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.

55 year old Joyce Lee Bailiff of Alexandria died Saturday at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at the Malone’s Chapel Baptist Church at Alexandria. Bill Shaw, Mike Gay, and Jerry Osborne will officiate and burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery at Alexandria. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. when the body will be taken to the church. She is survived by her husband, Robert Bailiff, Jr. of Alexandria. Step-children, June and her husband Robert Keith of Smithville, Gerald and his wife Gail Bailiff of Dowelltown, Ricky and his wife Christina Bailiff of Liberty, and Tiwanda and her husband Wesley Hall of Watertown. Her mother, Lee Grandstaff of Alexandria. A sister, Barbara and her husband Dwayne Cantrell of Alexandria. Nieces, Nancy and her husband Sam Malone of Brush Creek and Susan and her husband Thomas Coats of Alexandria. Nine step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. 77 year old H.C. Duke of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from Ford Motors and a member of the Bethlehem Community Church. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Virgil Hibdon, Jr. and Mike Satterfield will officiate and burial will be in the Hill View Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar Denton and Ollie Durham Duke; a brother, Cordell Denton Duke and a daughter, Kathy Foster. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lynn Malone Duke of Smithville. Three daughters, Queta and her husband Dale Seifker, Stephanie and her husband Danny Austin of Michigan and Theresa and her husband Ronnie Turner of Smithville. Nine grandchildren, Blake and Ashleigh Seifker, Sherry Austin, and Danny Austin, Jr. of Michigan, Tia Dillard, Tracy and Rocky Cassity, and Tayla Turner of Smithville, and Deidre and Rob Nelson of Arkansas. Seven great grandchildren. One brother, Dewey and his wife Lois Duke of Smithville. Two sisters, Oleda Pedigo of McMinnville and Brenda and her husband James Bayers of North Carolina. Special cousin, Hoyte Duke of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews and extended family also survive and his little poodle “Sugar”. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

46 year old Keith Ryan Allen of Nashville died Thursday at Skyline Medical Center. He was a self-employed truck driver and a member of the Church of Christ. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Virgil Hibdon, Jr. will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Mayo Allen of Nashville. Four children, Kevin Allen of Lebanon, Brandon Layne and Chris Allen of Nashville, and Ashley Allen of Smithville. Three grandchildren and one brother, Tony Allen of Nashville. Erma Gertrude Nokes
96 year old Erma Gertrude Nokes of Liberty died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the Gassaway Church of Christ where she was a member for over 80 years. Gary Hancock will officiate and burial will be in the Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at which time Ms. Nokes’ body will be taken to the church for the service at 2:30 p.m. She and her late husband Shelah were the former owners and operators of Nokes’ General Store in Liberty. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Brownlow and Elizabeth Mathis Derting; along with nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Clyde Nokes and Rayburn Nokes both of Smithville and two daughters, Dorothy and her husband Sanford Bryan and Oleta and her husband Howard Bullard both of Murfreesboro. Eight grandchildren, Gary Nokes, Nick Nokes, Bill Nokes, Jeff Nokes, Charles Nokes, Derek Bryan, Lisa Lawson, and Linda Dockery. Thirteen great grandchildren and eight great great grandchildren. 42 year old David Sean Cantrell of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a self employed lawn care worker and a member of the Church of God. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Donnie Kelly will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Survivors include his wife Darice Hill Cantrell of Smithville. Two children, J.W. and his wife Kasey Cantrell of Smithville, and Steven Cantrell of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Sean Tyler and Peyton Aubrey Cantrell both of Smithville. His parents, Waniford and Kathryn Cantrell of Smithville. 83 year old Hoyte Mackie Vickers of Liberty died Wednesday of an extended illness. He was a Cannon County native, a farmer, and a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Richard Williams will officiate and burial will be in the Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Vera Overall Vickers. Survivors include his wife, Sudie Burger Vickers of Liberty. One sister, Geneva Judkins of Smithville. A brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cecil and Wilma Burger of Smithville. A nephew as a son, Ricky and his wife Barbara Vickers of Liberty. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington and Angie Manus Davis; her husband, Joseph Jones, Sr.; brothers, Dewey, Fred, Thomas, William, and Lonnie Davis; and sisters, Myrtle and Ora Lee Thomas, Hattie Prater, and Stella McBroom. Survivors include three sons, Larry and his wife Peggy Jones of Lebanon, Classie “Bob” Jones of Smithville, and Arlin Jones of Smithville. Three daughters, Glenda Stanley, Clara Murphy, and Sharon Barnett all of Smithville. A sister, Mary Mooneyham of Woodbury. A brother, Jake and his wife Ruth Davis of Woodbury. Twelve grandchildren. 40 year old David Bryan Thompson of Watertown died Thursday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was born in DeKalb County and was an employee of Presicion Rubber Company. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Shannon Cantrell and Leon White will officiate and burial will be in the Jones Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. He was preceded in death by brothers Robert and Randall Hicks and grandparents, Mildred Roberts and Ewin and Ada Hicks. Survivors include his wife, Teresa Bain Thompson of Watertown. A son, Bryan Thompson of Watertown. His parents, Tom and JoAnn Hicks of Watertown.
