63 year old Eva Lois Chapman of Smithville died Tuesday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a housewife, homemaker, and a member of the United Pentecostal Church at Laurel Hill. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Ricky Arnold will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon until 10:00 p.m.; Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.; and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Burley and Nettie Hubbard Johnson. Survivors include her husband, Cordell Chapman of Smithville. A daughter, Melanie Chapman of Smithville. A sister, Nell and her husband Dean Snyder of Dowelltown. Magdalene Young Allen

89 year old Magdalene Young Allen of Smithville died Sunday at NHC of Smithville. She was owner/operator of Allen’s Ornamental Nursery and a member of the Tennessee Nurserymen’s Association and the WMU of the Smithville First Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Smithville First Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will be in the Whorton Springs Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alonzo Allen; her parents, Charlie and Bertie Turner Young; and brothers, Austin and Bernice Young. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Polly and Joseph A. Payne III of Roswell, Georgia. One granddaughter, Katherine and her husband Branen Hurst of Rossville, Georgia. One great grandchild, William Payne Hurst of Rossville, Georgia. Four step-grandchildren, Laura Payne of Roswell, Georgia, Jenny and her husband Timothy Mangan of Roswell, Georgia, Joseph and his wife, Kim Payne IV of Woodstock, Georgia, Andrea and her husband Patrick Remke of Nashville. Seven step-great grandchildren, Tyler, Evan, and Patrick Mangan of Roswell, Georgia, Bailey, Will, and Mae Remke of Nashville, and Allison Payne of Woodstock, Georgia. One brother, Aaron Young of Elizabethon, Tennessee. Two sisters, Virginia Gill of Silver Point and Marie Colvert of Smithville. Two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Young of Hendersonville and Sofia Young of Memphis. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. 89 year old Magdalene Allen of Smithville died Sunday night at NHC Healthcare Center. The body is at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Arrangements are incomplete.

Eva Mae Lee Hinton

82 year old Eva Mae Lee Hinton of Huntsville, Alabama died Friday. She was born in Nauvoo to James and Alice Lee Eva. Mrs. Hinton graduated from Curry High School and received a B.S. degree from Jacksonville State University. She retired from the Huntsville City School System in 1983. She was a member of the Southside Baptist Church. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and participated in the Huntsville Retired Teacher’s Association for many years. Her parents and brothers, Dee, Lecil, and James of Jasper preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Troy H. Hinton of Huntsville; sons and their wives, Wayne and Guy Hinton of Huntsville and Jerry L. and Susan Hinton of Smithville. Grandchildren, Sara Hinton Lanwer and husband Bjoern Lanwer of Huntsville, Matt Hinton of Birmingham, Troy E. Hinton of Italy, and R.D. Kelly, Jr. of Tuscaloosa; one great grandson, Michael Lee Hinton of Mount Juliet; brothers, John Lee of Jasper and Bill and his wife, Becky Lee of Jasper; a sister, Pat Lee Knight of Houston, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews. The visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Saturday at the Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel at the funeral home with Les Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Huntsville Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Big Oak Ranch, Southside, Alabama or to Hospice Family Care.

Clarence Edward Thweatt

74 year old Clarence Edward Thweatt of Smithville died Friday at his residence. He was active at the Dry Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, a Mason, Shriner, and a retired employee at Avco Aerostructure. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Donald Owens will officiate and entombment will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette Edge Thweatt; his parents, Clyde Preston and Ruthene McCormick Thweatt; a brother, Kenneth Thweatt; and a sister, Thelma Russell. Survivors include his children, Greg Thweatt of California, Anita and her husband Jimmy Puckett, and Mark Young of Smithville. Grandchildren, Heather Thweatt, Jennifer Thweatt, Kevin Thweatt, Kristian Puckett, Kidman Puckett, and Addison Puckett. Brothers, John Henry and his wife Dean Thweatt of Smithville and Doug and his wife Donna Thweatt of Gallatin. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. 95 year old Pauline Elizabeth Griffith of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Robert Hilton will officiate and burial will be in the Dowell Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Cora Bates Tubbs; her husband, William Franklin Griffith; and a son, Jimmy Griffith. Survivors include a daughter, Mary White of Smithville. Three granddaughters, Beverly Thompson of Smithville, Rochelle Hogan of Sparta, and Sonya White of Smithville. Two great grandchildren. Two sisters, Inez Tubbs of Alexandria and Virginia Myers of Cookeville. A sister-in-law, Inez Tubbs of Smithville and two nieces, Jeanette League of Smithville and Billie McKenley of Carthage. Harvey Colwell, Jr.

73 year old Harvey Colwell, Jr. of Dowelltown died Sunday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a member of the Indian Creek Missionary Baptist Church, a construction worker, a farmer, and a school bus driver for the DeKalb County School System. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Terry Fesler, David Mahan, and Tommy Taylor will officiate and burial will be in the Snow Hill Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Harvie and Maggie Vanatta Colwell; sisters, Gradie Mai Smith, Ruby Tittsworth, and Hattie Cathey; and a brother, Hobert Colwell. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Sarah Ellen Colwell of Dowelltown. Three children, Tim and his wife Angel Colwell of Smithville, Gloria and her husband Michael Pinegar of Smithville, and Deborah and her husband Ronnie Franklin of Alexandria. Six grandchildren, Jared and his wife Jennifer Hendrixson, Carrie Byford, Heather and her husband Chris Young, Brandon Colwell, Brandi Colwell, and Derrick Rowland. Five great grandchildren, Bethany Byford, Jacob Byford, Cain Lee Hendrixson, Trenton Ashburn, and Demon Rowland. One brother, James Colwell of Dowelltown and a sister, Ada Tomlin of Portland. 79 year old Joe Bratcher, Sr. of McMinnville died Saturday at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. He was a retired machine operator and a Methodist. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kenneth W. Kirby will officiate and burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Entha Gilbert Bratcher; two sons-in-law, Klause Clark and Dorris Vaughn; four grandchildren; three brothers, James Bratcher, Robert Bratcher, Sr., and John Bratcher, Sr. Survivors include five daughters, Louise and her husband James Wrisner of Manchester, Joe Evelyn Vaughn and Darlene and her husband Roger Vaughn all of McMinnville, Anita and her husband Carl Smith of Oklahoma, and Debbie Allender of Ohio. Four sons, Donnie and his wife Patricia Bratcher of Smithville, Terry and his wife Pam Bratcher, and Bruce Bratcher all of Ohio, Joseph and his wife Nancy Bratcher of McMinnville.
