Ruby Crook Skinner

83 year old Ruby Crook Skinner of Alexandria died Tuesday at her home. She was the daughter of the late Ewing and Jenny Alta Pitman Crook. She was a homemaker and a Messianic Believer. She was preceded in death by her husband Shelton Russell Skinner and a sister Frances Jennings. She is survived by six children James and his wife Rose Skinner of Richardson Texas, Larry and his wife Carroll Skinner of Dixon Springs, Danny and his wife Teresa Skinner of Nashville, Carol and her husband Bernie Washer of Alexandria, Cathy and her husband Mike Styer of Burns, and Cindy and her husband Larry Washer of Alexandria. One brother W.C. Crook of Smithville. Fifteen grandchildren Christy Thompson, Julie Jackson, James A., Terry, Monroe, and Chris Skinner, Greta Davis, Alice Wills, David and Patricia Cantrell, Benjamin Benayce, Kaitlin Styer, Lydia Foote, Alicia Washer, and Julie Rader. Twenty-seven great-grandchildren. The body is at the Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home in Lebanon where the service will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. Paul Bell will officiate and burial will be in the Hillview Cemetery in Alexandria. Lester Layne Griffin

94 year old Lester Layne Griffin of Smithville died Wednesday. He was a native of Wilson County but lived most of his life in DeKalb County. He was a self employed businessman, a Shriner for more than 50 years and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Milton Cemetery. David Turner will officiate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Hancock Griffin and his parents, Ballard and Mettie Cunningham Griffin. He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Griffin Knight of Murfreesboro. A brother, John Doyle Griffin of Watertown. A sister, Dara Griffin Shaver of Woodbridge, Virginia. Grandchildren, Ronnie and his wife Rosaline Knight, Randy and his wife Debbie Knight, and Ricky and his wife Phyllis Knight. Four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren survive. 36 year old Pamela Gail Baker Cook of McMinnville died Thursday at River Park Hospital. She was a member of the Church of Christ and an employee of Federal Mogul in Smithville. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville. Kenneth W. Kirby and Brian Jones will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Liberty. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She is survived by her husband, Barry Cook of McMinnville. Her parents, Charles and Pearline Baker of McMinnville. One daughter, Morgan Thaxton of McMinnville. One step-daughter, Amanda Cook of Alexandria. 88 year old Nancy Lee “Squirt” Loring of Smithville died Thursday ay Vanco Manor Nursing Center in Goodlettsville. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Terry Little will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Emma Gill Smith and her husband, Charles Loring. Survivors include two daughters, Charlene and her husband Danny Foutch of Mount Juliet and Edie Loring of Georgia. Four sons, Bob Loring of Gallatin, Joe Loring of Hermitage, Mark and his wife Debbie Loring of Smithville, and Michael and his wife Regina Loring of Westmoreland. One step-daughter, Jackie and her husband Dale Bockman of Georgia. Six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one sister, Lou Linder of Virginia. Marshall Hamilton Agee

88 year old Marshall Hamilton Agee of Alexandria died Thursday at Carthage General Hospital. He was a farmer, a Smith County native, and a U.S. Army veteran. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00p.m at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Jeff Hicks will officiate and burial will be in the Charles Baird Memorial Cemetery in Hickman. He was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Willie Ashley Agee, one infant son Delmas Loving Agee, one brother Elmer Agee, sisters-in-law Bettie Johnson, Lee Ette Agee, brothers-in-law Clarence Webster, and John Webster. He is survived by wife Ruth Webster Agee, one daughter Velma Rollins of Nashville. One nephew Jackie Agee. Three sisters-in-law Lorene and her husband Robert Driver of Alexandria, Elsie Pugh of Lebanon, and Tommie Dedmon of Alexandria. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Barbra Lois Elrod

73 year old Barbra Lois Elrod of the Johnsons Chapel Community died Saturday at the Shannon Dale Health Care Center in Knoxville. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. and Anne Welch Cooper; her husband, George W. Elrod, Jr.; and a brother, Robert “Buddy” Cooper. Surivors include three sons, Richard and his wife Shari Elrod of Knoxville, Bill Elrod and Charlie Elrod both of Sparta. Five grandchildren, two great grandchildren. Three sisters, Mary Lou Bilbee of West Virginia, Polly Jones of Maryland, and Betty Murphy of Murfreesboro. 24 year old Jason Lee Lippart of Smithville died Monday in Missouri. He is survived by his mother Betty Murphy Lippart of Smithville, and his father Ramond Lippart II. One brother Raymond Lippart III of Smithville. Two sisters Tina Lippart of Smithville, and Nikki of Michigan. Nieces and Nephews Travis and Jeremy Parrish of Smithville, Audrey and Davis Dickerson of Michigan. One aunt Rachel Caldwell of Smithville. The funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. Leslie E. LaFever

72 year old Leslie E. LaFever died Thursday at his residence in Franklin. He was born in Baxter to the late Albert and Evie Young LaFever. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Honeywell,Incorporated as a principal service representative. LaFever was also a 1952 graduate of DeKalb County High School. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home in Franklin. Jim Taylor will officiate and burial will be in Williamson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from noon until the service at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Ann LaFever of Franklin. 66 year old Leonard Ray Young of McMinnville died Saturday at Raintree Manor. He was a DeKalb County native and a self employed nursery worker. He attended the Baptist Church.
