69 year old Billy Cobble of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was a Baptist and a farmer. The family has chosen direct cremation. No visitation or services are planned at this time. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Ruby Walker Cobble; three brothers, Tommy McCowan, James and Larry Cobble; and a sister, Kim McCowan. He is survived by a daughter, Nicole and Carlos Godsey of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Jacob Smith, Taylor and Harley Godsey all of Smithville, Morgan and Jerry Smith, and Kenneth Godsey all of Cookeville. One sister, Mary Smith of Smithville. 41 year old John Charles Deck, Jr. of Dowelltown died Wednesday at Saint Thomas DeKalb Hospital. He was a Baptist and a self employed contractor. He is survived by a daughter, Emily Grace Deck of Murfreesboro and mother, Barbara Weaver Deck of Dowelltown. The family has chosen direct cremation. There will be no visitation. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna Mae Simmons; a son, Fred Loucks, and husband John Loucks. Survivors include her children, Michael, Laurie, Neal, Paula, and Wayne of Smithville, Keith of Greenville, Tennessee, Michelle, Kathy, Sherry, and John of New York. 84 year old Geneva Louise Looney of Sparta died Tuesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a Free Will Baptist and a retired waitress at Hillcrest Restaurant. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jordan Looney and Paul Taylor will officiate and burial will be at the Johnson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Looney and parents, Marion and Clayta Cashdollar Hudgens. Survivors include two sons, Dale and wife Talitha Looney of Sparta and Donald and wife Angie Looney of Smithville. One daughter, Gail and husband Denny Young of McMinnville. Six grandchildren, Katelyn Looney of Sparta, Jordan and Scarlett Looney of California, Brooklyn and Aaron Shirah of Smithville, Heather and Adam Poole of McMinnville, Misty Shehane of Smithville and Josh and Stephanie Young of McMinnville. Elder Howard E. Hooper

Elder Howard E. Hooper age 86 of Rock Island, TN, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, October 14, 2015, with family by his side at home. He was born September 07, 1929, in DeKalb County, TN, retired after a 29 year career with Century Electric, was ordained as a The Baptist minister in 1962 and pastored Pilgram, Newtown, Mt. View, Spring Hill, New Hope, Spring Creek, and Spring Street The Baptist Churches. Brother Hooper was preceded in death by his parents Sam and Hassie Young, daughter Rhonda Hooper, a son Billy Hooper, and a brother Aaron Hooper.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years Alma Ruth Cannon Hooper, daughters Kathy (Norman) Atnip and Donna Hooper, grandchildren Monica and Brian Newsome, Lynn and James Jones, Leslie Reynolds, Jerimey and Dana Apple, Jamie and Sam Copley, Jason Apple, and Mandy May, great-grandchildren Jacob Ballew, Ashley Ballew, Skyland Beecham, Sophia Ashburn, Christopher Apple, Aaron and Lauren Duggin, Rosa Alvarado, Conner Jernigan, Peyton Potvin, Cheyenne Newsome, Harley Newsome, Tori Reynolds, Jem Reynolds, Kloe Reynolds, John Reynolds, Matthew West, Tinsley West, Clayton Jones, Kelsey and Tillman West, sister Jimmie Johnson, and sister-in-law Lucille Hooper.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 17, 2015, at Newtown The Baptist Church. Elder James Wright and Elder Cody Holman will officiate. Interment will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The Hooper Family will receive friends Thursday from 3 P.M. until 9 P.M. and Friday from 11 A.M. until 9 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home. Rickey Lynn DeVault age 58 of Dowelltown passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015 at his residence. He was a Baptist and was a former employee with the City of Smithville Water Department. Rickey was preceded in death by 1 daughter-in-law, Kim Curtis DeVault; 4 brothers, Tony DeVault, Larry Ferrell, Gary Ferrell and Charles Ferrell. He is survived by 4 children, Mackie (Shannon) Pollard of Hickman, Johnny DeVault of Smithville, Carrie (Ryan) Lyons of Smithville and Samantha DeVault of Smithville; 1 step-daughter, Marina Cornette of Smithville; 13 grandchildren; mother, Opal Atnip of Smithville; father, Mack (Louise) Harris of Spring City; 5 brothers, Scott Ferrell, Terry Ferrell, Chris Ferrell and Jeff Ferrell all of Smithville and Wayne Ferrell of Manchester. Rickey’s request was to be cremated and a memorial service will be held 6:00PM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating. 63 year old Debra Yulonda Fuson of Smithville died Wednesday night at NHC of Smithville. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Brannon will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Fuson was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Fuson and step-father Claude Randall, Jr. Survivors include her mother, Lois Randall of Smithville. Four aunts, JoDean Redmon and Jeanette Smithson both of Smithville, Norene Anderson of Sparta and Juanita Redmon of Michigan. Uncle, Mack Redmon of Murfreesboro.
