Gary “Baldy” Jones age 69 of The Belk Community of DeKalb County passed away Sunday morning, May 31, 2015 at NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. Gary was born May 14, 1946 to his parents, the late Cephas and Grace Cantrell Jones. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Roger Jones; 4 Brothers: Troy Jones, Joe Jones, Roger Jones, Charles Jones. Mr. Gary Jones attended New Union The Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 2:PM Wednesday with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Buddy Cleveland (Clevie) Petty age 53 of Smithville passed away Sunday night May 31, 2015 at DeKalb Community Hospital ER. He was born May 30, 1962 to his parents the late Grover Cleveland Petty and Martha Ann Tisdale. He worked in construction and attended Pomeroy Chapel Brethren In Christ. Funeral Services will be held 4:30PM Wednesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jack Patterson officiating and burial in the Petty Cemetery. Helen Mai Herman

72 year old Helen Mai Herman of Smithville died Saturday evening at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church and was retired from Kingston Timers. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harrison and Lillie Neal Hall; a brother, Jimmy Hall; two sisters, Lucille Holmes and Corinne Kelly; and two half brothers, O.P. and L.D. Hall. She is survived by a son, Paul Sullivan and fiancé Wanda Call of McMinnville. Husband, Darrell Malcomb of Smithville. Granddaughter, Kaylee Brook Sullivan of McMinnville. Three step daughters, Frances and husband Joel Adcock, Brenda and husband Stevie Cripps, and Patricia and husband Jerry Lawson all of Smithville. Jack Donald Johnson

84 year old Jack Donald Johnson of Alexandria died Saturday at UMC Hospital in Lebanon. He was born in DeKalb County and was a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. He worked 27 years at Craft. Johnson also served for 15 years on the county commission and worked for 20 years at the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Ronnie Smith will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Vance Johnson and Margaret Williams and his wife, Patsy Nell Johnson. He is survived by his children, Jackie Johnson, Dave Johnson, Debbie and husband Bennie Curtis, and Donnie and wife Jocelyn Johnson all of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Michelle Overstreet, Jamie Johnson, Clint Johnson, Chad Curtis, Ty Curtis, Jeremie Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson. Several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews survive. A sister, Sue McMillen and brother, Paul Johnson both of Alexandria. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements. Johnny Len Cantrell age 52 of Smithville passed away Thursday morning at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. He was born September 15, 1962 to his parents, the late Hamp, Jr. and Rebecca Davis Cantrell. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Paulette Estes. Johnny was a Baptist and worked in Construction work. He is survived by 5 children, Johnna Cantrell of Smithville, Rocky Cantrell of Shelbyville, Porsche Cantrell of Lewisburg, Heather Soto of Smithville, Matthew Cantrell of Smithville; 9 grandchildren; 4 sisters, Deanna (Jerry) Brooks, Tammy (Jerry) Maynard, Tonya (Rocky) Menix, and Michelle (Tim) Snipes all of Smithville; 1 brother, Dwight Cantrell of Smithville. Johnny’s request was to be cremated. There will be a graveside memorial service held 1:00PM Saturday, May 30, 2015 at the Mt. View Cemetery at Young Bend with Bro. Michael Hale officiating.
