John W. Alford

John W. Alford age 73 of Smithville, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 23, 2015 at DeKalb Community Hospital ER. He was born April 6, 1942 to his parents, the late John Robert and Ludie Inez Baltimore Alford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jimmy and Howell Alford. He attended the Bright Hill United Methodist Church and was retired from the city of Smithville. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Linda Alford of Smithville; 2 sons, Wesley Nathaniel (Cindy) Alford and Sandy Lee (Toni) Alford both of Manchester. One daughter, Christine (Ted) Stoffell of Manchester. Five grandchildren. Four great grandchildren. Two brothers, Leonard (Jean) Alford and Kenneth Alford of Manchester. One sister, Peggy (Richard) Arnold of Manchester. One half brother, Terry (Dale) Shelton of Manchester. Several nieces and nephews and many good friends. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Wallace Caldwell will officiate and burial will be in Welker Cemetery in Manchester. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Geneva Adamson Shoemake

Geneva Adamson Shoemake age 89 of Smithville, passed away Thursday morning at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. She was born March 28, 1926 to her parents, the late Owen and Georgia Adamson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Shoemake and a sister, Frances Muscari. Geneva was a member of New Home Baptist Church, graduate of the Liberty High School and retired from the Metro Nashville Government. She is survived by a brother, John Edward (Shelia) Adamson of Smithville; nephew, Ed (Kerri) Adamson of Brush Creek; 2 cousins, Doris Hullett of McMinnville and Maydel Sandusky of Whitehouse; 2 step-nieces, Martha (Richie) Knowles of Smithville and Mary (Mark) Fritts of Soddy Daisy, TN; and Her wonderful Pet Dog Max. Funeral services for Geneva will be 1:PM Saturday, April 25, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Mike Clayborn officiating with burial to follow in Salem Cemetery. Patsy Nell Johnson

81 year old Patsy Nell Johnson of Alexandria died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a 30 year employee of the DeKalb County Clerk’s Office and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Dan Mallett will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from Noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Clint Reynolds and Louise Reasonover; and a brother, George Clint Reynolds. Survivors include her husband, Jack Johnson of Alexandria. Children, Jackie Johnson, Dave Johnson, Debbie and husband Bennie Curtis, and Donnie and wife Jocelyn Johnson all of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Michelle Overstreet, Jamie Johnson, Clint Johnson, Chad Curtis, Ty Curtis, Jeremie Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson. Willie Lee Rigsby age 88 of Smithville, passed away Tuesday morning at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born December 12, 1926 to his parents, the late Martin Luther and Sallie Ann Pack Rigsby. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, May Rigsby; son, Dennis Rigsby; brother, Elijah Rigsby and sister, Ruby Cook. Willie Lee was a self-employed used automotive dealer, member of Liberty Lodge #77, member of Spring Street The Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He is survived by 1 brother, Jackie (Frances) Rigsby of Smithville; daughter-in-law, Lenda Rigsby of Smithville; grandchildren, Shannon (Dale) Garner of McMinnville and Tommy (Susanne) Rigsby of Oregon; great-grandchildren, Piper Rigsby, Steven Garner and Canaan Garner; brother-in-law, Marvin Gooch of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Mary (Robert) Birch of Kentucky; 2 nieces, Vicky Smith and Lori Ann Nokes; 1 nephew, Jackie Darrell Rigsby; special friend, Jimmy Taylor of Smithville. 80 year old Jack Preston McGuire of Smithville died Friday morning at NHC of Smithville. He was a former truck driver for Pirtle’s Nursery. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 1-9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. McGuire was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Della Colvert McGuire; a son, Jack McGuire, Jr.; a grandson, David Crook; a brother, a Dan McGuire; and a sister-in-law, Velma McGuire. Survivors include his wife, Sue Sadler McGuire of Smithville. A son, Eddie and wife Frances McGuire of Smithville. Daughter, Renee and husband Bobby Eldridge of Silver Point. Seven grandchildren, Megan and Jeremiah Jones both of Silver Point, Gavin Eldridge of Cookeville, Grant and Maggie McGuire both of Tullahoma, Austin Rouchefort and Angela Turner both of Smithville. Donny Eugene Dodd

Donny Eugene Dodd age 76 of Alexandria, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. Eugene was born in Dekalb County, son of the late Harrison and Jennie Mai Hale Dodd. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Eugene Dodd; brothers, Henry and Calvin Dodd; sisters, Annie Lee Smith, Dexie Thorne and Lucille Plariee. He was a farmer and avid coon hunter. Eugene is survived by his wife, Judy Walton Dodd of Alexandria; children, Judy (Woody) Dodds of Castalian Springs, Keith (Connie) Dodd of Lebanon, Donna (Monty) Martin of Watertown, Kim (Joey) Edwards of Lebanon, Tim Dodd of Alexandria; stepchildren, Wanda (Adam) Mathis of McMinnville and Roy Murphy of Smithville; grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister, Jodene Atnip of Watertown; nieces and nephews. Funeral services 2 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015 at Hunter Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Atnip officiating. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Thursday and prior to services Friday. Interment at Hunter Memorial Park.
