30 year old Joshua Lee Kalmar of Nashville died December 2 at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California. Josh was an amazing son, father, hard worker and friend. His warm, happy, adventurous spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Josh was preceded in death by his father Bunny Stiefel and his grandmother Dot Kalmar. He is survived by his daughter Aleea Kalmar of Smithville, mother Jackie Schultz of Nashville, twin brother Nick Kalmar of Monteagle, sisters Elizabeth Riley of McMinnville, and Miranda Morrison of Ringold, Georgia, special aunt Joanna Fuson of Smithville, special uncle Timmy Kalmar of Nashville, step-daughter Jamey Bradshaw of Smithville, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Services for Josh will be Saturday, December 14 at 2:00 P.M. in the Foster & Lay Chapel, with burial to follow in the Clouse Hill Cemetery, Tracy City, Tennessee. Elizabeth Allen Parkerson
79 year old Elizabeth Allen Parkerson of Alexandria died Monday at the DeKalb Community Hospital.
She was born in DeKalb County to the late Charlie Allen and Omia Trusty. She married Elbert Lee Parkerson and he preceded her in death in 1993. She was also preceded in death by sisters; Nayomia Nokes and Louise Agee. She was a member of the Malone’s Chapel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Parkerson is survived by a son; Elbert Wayne Parkerson of Smithville. A daughter; Faye Neville of Smithville. Granddaughters; Tammy Driver and Lynda Neville of Smithville. Great-Grandson; Cain Bennett. Step-Granddaughter; Carla Mick of Smithville. Two Brothers; J.C. Allen of Brush Creek and Claude (Dean) Allen of Dale Ridge. Two Sister-in-Laws; Ruby Nell Parkerson and Sherry Parkerson. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.
The funeral services for Mrs. Parkerson will be Friday at 1PM at the Avant Funeral Home with Johnny Adcock and Royce Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
Visitation with the Parkerson family will be held Thursday from 11AM until 8PM and again on Friday after 10AM until the service time at 1PM.

Vella Avis Hendrixson
91 year old Vella Avis Hendrixson of the Dale Ridge Community died Wednesday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was the daughter of the late Haskel and Lizzie Young Parsley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Lee Hendrixson, Son-in-law, Kennith Vanatta; 2 Brothers, Delton and Hamilton Parsley. She was a member of Smithville O.E.S. #374 and the Buckner’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Ms. Vella was a retired Factory Worker and Housekeeping Supervisor at the Hospital. She is survived by 2 Daughters, Barbara Vanatta of Dowelltown and Faye and husband Bobby Hall of Alexandria; 3 Grandchildren, Amy (Shane) Wilcher of McMinnville, Bethney (Ronnie) Vaught of Brush Creek, Bradley (Lacy) Hall of Alexandria; 6 Great-Grandchildren, Brandon and Gracie Gay, Kelsey and Hunter Vaught, Mia and Noah Hall, 1 Great-Great-Grandson, Grayson Lee Johnson; Sister-in-law, Evelyn Parsley of Warren, Michigan; Several Nieces, Nephews and Cousins also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:AM Friday, December 13, 2013 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Mike Gay and Michael Hale officiating and interment to follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery. 81 year old Ella Lee Mathis of Woodbury died Wednesday at NHC of Smithville. She was a housewife and a member of the Mt. Ararat Church of Christ. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Ararat Church of Christ. Dorris Hughes will officiate and burial will be in the Mt. Ararat Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Audie and Nellie Bailey; husband, Thomas Mathis, and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include three daughters, Rose and husband Lloyd Watts and Nellie and husband Paul Bentley all of Woodbury and Tammie and husband Steve Young of McMinnville. 91 year old Frank Ray Bratten of Liberty died Tuesday night at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was the son of the late Frank and Bobbie Gothard Bratten. He was retired from Ford Glass in Nashville, longtime member of First Baptist of Donelson, current member of Salem Baptist Church in Liberty and proudly served his country in WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a Godly man who left a Godly legacy for his family. In addition to his parents Mr. Bratten was also preceded in death by his wife Anna Ruth Bratten; Son: Larry Don Bratten; Brother: Tom Bratten; Sister: Lavenia Bratten Mitchell. 56 year old Terry Wayne “Tutor” Kent of Alexandria, died Tuesday evening at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Son of the late C.E. and Iva Dell Johnson Kent, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Faye Kent and brothers, Mike and Jerry Kent. He was a graduate of DeKalb County High School and was employed as a painter. Terry was a member of Liberty Hill Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Hall Kent of Alexandria; son, Jeremy Kent of Watertown; sisters, Linda Farmer and husband, William and Shirley Lowe and husband, Bob both of Lebanon; sisters-in-law, Lynn and Regina Kent; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Steve Mayle officiating. Charles Edward Cantrell
42 year old Charles Edward Cantrell of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was a Baptist, a mechanic, and a former employee of Estes Furniture Company. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cantrell was preceded in death by his father, Albert Cantrell; granddaughter, Haylea Marie Hughes; and grandparents, David and Hazel Mai Attkinson. Survivors include his fiancée, Veronica Mooneyham of Smithville. A daughter, Betty and husband Derek Hughes of Virginia. Two sons, Clint Cantrell and his fiancée Amanda Vann of Smithville and Dustin Herndon of Warren County. Four grandchildren. His mother, Rachel Caldwell of Warren County, Two brothers, Albert Cantrell and Tommy Willis. Three sisters, Tracey Thomason, Susan Willis and Nikki Lippard. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends survive.
