98 year old Opal Kitchings died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Mississippi on Monday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Daisy Malone Foutch; her husband, Charlie Boyd Kitchings; and two sisters, Lucille Malone and Anna Foutch. She was a homemaker, a certified music teacher at the Alexandria and Brush Creek Schools, and a member of the West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria. She is survived by a daughter, Lyna Charles Rorie of Oxford, Mississippi, a granddaughter, Robin and husband Ben Bolton of Oxford, Mississippi, James W. Rorie and wife Kapie of Memphis. Five great grandchildren, Rorie, Benjamin, and Ann Lindsey Bolton and Maverick and Lexie Grace Rorie. The funeral will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church in Alexandria with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the service time on Saturday. Burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to West Main Baptist Church in Alexandria and New Hope Baptist Church. 91 year old Wilma Hillis Tolbert, a resident of the Webb House in Smithville died Sunday.
She was a long-time member of Vultee Church of Christ and served there for many years as the Church Secretary.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. with Dr. Carl McKelvey officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park’s Garden of the Last Supper.
The family invites friends to gather with them Tuesday evening for a time of visitation at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home in Nashville from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Tolbert was preceded in death by her parents, James Robert and Lena Marie Hillis, and husband, Thomas Tolbert. She was a member of the Dry Creek Baptist Church for 83 years and was a Sunday School Teacher and the Church Clerk for 37 years. She was also retired from the DeKalb County School System, a factory worker, and a homemaker. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Dry Creek Baptist Church. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Jo Bill Murphy Cook
Jo Bill Murphy Cook, 82, of Smithville passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Thursday, November 28, 2013. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired secretary for Cumberland Nursery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Lee and Alberta “Bertie” Murphy; her husband, Bratten Hale Cook; her children, Gayden (Cook) Richardson and Steve (Pat Cook Briggs) Cook; her grandson Patrick Ford; and six brothers: LT Murphy, Walter Norvel Murphy, Ronald Murphy, Donald Murphy, Jerry Murphy and Cletus Murphy.
She is survived by her son, Bratten (Judy) Cook II of Smithville; two daughters, Murphy Ford of Nashville, and Jo Lynn (Mike) Brown, of Nashville; and son-in-law Buck Ford. Grandchildren: Megan Cook, of Smithville, TN; Bratten Cook III, of Cookeville, TN, Andrew Cook, of Murfreesboro, TN; Jesse Ford, Tucker Ford, and James Ford, of Nashville,TN; Elliot Cook, of Smithville, TN; and Collin Cook, of Lexington, TN. Great-grandchildren: Devin Cook, Ari Cook, and Bratten Cook IV of Smithville, TN. Two brothers, Kenneth (Joyce) Murphy, and Grady (Dot) Murphy; three sisters, Pat Bain, Wanda Barr, and Peggy (Wayne) Patterson; and four sisters-in-law, Peggy Murphy , Janie Cook Knowles and Jeanine Cook Caldwell.
