Jo Bill Murphy Cook

Jo Bill Murphy Cook, 82, of Smithville passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Thursday, November 28, 2013. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a retired secretary for Cumberland Nursery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grady Lee and Alberta “Bertie” Murphy; her husband, Bratten Hale Cook; her children, Gayden (Cook) Richardson and Steve (Pat Cook Briggs) Cook; her grandson Patrick Ford; and six brothers: LT Murphy, Walter Norvel Murphy, Ronald Murphy, Donald Murphy, Jerry Murphy and Cletus Murphy.
She is survived by her son, Bratten (Judy) Cook II of Smithville; two daughters, Murphy Ford of Nashville, and Jo Lynn (Mike) Brown, of Nashville; and son-in-law Buck Ford. Grandchildren: Megan Cook, of Smithville, TN; Bratten Cook III, of Cookeville, TN, Andrew Cook, of Murfreesboro, TN; Jesse Ford, Tucker Ford, and James Ford, of Nashville,TN; Elliot Cook, of Smithville, TN; and Collin Cook, of Lexington, TN. Great-grandchildren: Devin Cook, Ari Cook, and Bratten Cook IV of Smithville, TN. Two brothers, Kenneth (Joyce) Murphy, and Grady (Dot) Murphy; three sisters, Pat Bain, Wanda Barr, and Peggy (Wayne) Patterson; and four sisters-in-law, Peggy Murphy , Janie Cook Knowles and Jeanine Cook Caldwell. One brother-in-law, Joe Stone. The family would like to thank her special friends Evelene Davis and Wilalene Brock for their love, care and support.
The visitation will be held at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home on November 29 from 2-7 p.m., and on November 30 from from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., which will also be held at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Liberty, TN immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Habitat for Humanity.

George “Little George” Mancefield Johnson, Jr

48 year old George “Little George” Mancefield Johnson, Jr. of Walling died at his residence. He was born in Smithville, son of George Mancefield Johnson, Sr. and the late Nellie Wood. He was employed as a prison guard in Pikeville and he was a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his father, Johnson is survived by his adopted mother, Jewell Hoffman of Sparta; sister, Debra Bain and husband Kenny of Smithville; sister, Teresa Ann Johnson of Dowelltown; sister, Janie Johnson of Dowelltown; niece, Nelda Bandy; nephew, Kenny Bain, Jr.; special great nieces, Tanisha and Briana Bandy; special great nephews, Jacob Bandy, Gavin and Braxton Bain, and Dayne Powell; and many friends and other relatives. In addition to his mother, he was preceeded in death by a niece, Stacey Powell. The family will recieve friends and neighbors for a visitation on Friday from 2 until 8 pm at the Oak Lawn Funeral Home Chapel in Sparta. The family will also recieve friends for a visitation at the Spring Hill Baptist Church on Saturday from 10 am until 1 pm with the funeral service to follow at 1 pm. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

George “Little George” Mancefield Johnson, Jr

48 year old George “Little George” Mancefield Johnson, Jr. of Walling died at his residence. He was born in Smithville, son of George Mancefield Johnson, Sr. and the late Nellie Wood. 65 year old Linda Sue Summers of Smithville died Sunday at UT Medical Center in Knoxville. She was a homemaker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Danny Bandy will officiate and burial will be in the Pedigo-Summers Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Eddie Robinson; a sister, Sally Judkins; and a grandchild, Star Palermo. 92 year old Willa Dean Taylor of Smithville died Friday night at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Herschel and Edith Gill Haynes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Solon Robert Taylor; Son, Robert Jewel Taylor; Brother, Brown Haynes. She was a Homemaker and a Baptist. She is survived by 1 Daughter, Sherry Gayle Taylor Graham of Smithville; Granddaughter, Keisha Taylor of Murfreesboro; Daughter-in-law, Helen Taylor of Smithville; and 2 Great-Grandchildren, Leslie and Max. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:PM Sunday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday 4:PM until 9:PM and Sunday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2 PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

58 year old Thomas A. Pavone of Smithville died Monday at NHC. A Memorial service will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Mary Pavone; two sisters, Josephine Pavone and Gloria Pavone; and a brother, Frank Pavone. Survivors include three sisters, Rosemary Pavone, Geraldine Lipke, and Darlene Pavone all of Illinois. One brother, Anthony Pavone of Illinois. One local niece, Kari and husband Jacob Ashford of Liberty. Several nieces and nephews survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Judy Carol Tramel

66 year old Judy Carol Tramel of Smithville died Sunday at Woodbury Nursing Center. She was a Christian and a retired employee of Star Manufacturing. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Tramel was preceded in death by her parents, James Austin and Ova Josephine Bratcher Davis; two sisters, Mary Helen Stanley and Rebecca Cantrell; brothers, James Homer Davis; a nephew, Darrell Petty; and a niece, Paulette Estes. Survivors include two daughters, Kim Cantrell of Smithville and Schree Tramel of Smithville. Two grandchildren, Jacob and Elicia Cantrell; one brother, Roger and his wife Barbara Davis; and a special nephew, Johnny Cantrell all of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
