A former county commissioner who passed away Monday was fondly remembered Thursday night during the regular monthly meeting of the commission.
Mack Harney, Jr. served three terms as 7th district commissioner during the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Seventh district commissioner Larry Summers, who served with Harney, paid tribute to him.
“We have lost a great citizen of DeKalb County, Mack Harney. He served on this commission for 12 years. People don’t know how much he loved DeKalb County. He had connections with the state legislature. He could get an appointment with the Governor on matters. He loved to do things behind the scene. I always considered him the most effective commissioner I ever served with. We’ve lost a great citizen and I have lost a friend,” said Summers.
The funeral for Mr. Harney was held Thursday.
