96 year old Dorothy Lea Comer Appleton of Lancaster died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and a nurse with Vanderbilt Student Health. A graveside service will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount View Cemetery in McMinnville. Dr. Steve Angus will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Wheeler and Florance Anderson Comer; her husband, Thomas Mack Appleton; a granddaughter, Shannon Lea Mitchell; and companion, Charley Grigg. Survivors include two children, Emily Appleton Mitchell of Nashville and Thomas Comer Appleton of Lawrenceburg. Four grandchildren and four great grandchildren survive along with a brother, John B. Comer of Newport News, Virginia. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
