68 year old Earl Dyer of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a mechanic and a member of the Apostolic Ark Church in Murfreesboro. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Matt Walls will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Dyer was preceded in death by his parents, Haskell and Flossie Pippin Dyer; brothers, William, Hubert, Gordon, and Frank Dyer. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Comfort Dyer of Smithville. A son, Earl, Jr. and wife Amy Dyer of Dowelltown. Step-daughter, Charlotte Malone of Smithville. Brother, Raymond Dyer of Smithville. Sisters, Stella Clemons of Sparta, Gladys Chaffin, and Eller Chaffin both of Cookeville, Altie and husband Gerald Knowles, Glenda and husband John Turner, and Linda and husband Freeman Brown all of Smithville. Brothers-in-law, Jerry Comfort and Billy and wife Goldie Comfort. Sisters-in-law, Barbara Comfort, Frances Dyer, Jean Dyer, and Stella Dyer. Several nieces and nephews. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Gideons or Relay for Life in memory of Earl.
