87 year old Jessie Lee Banks Melton of Beloit, Wisconsin and formerly of Smithville, died Monday. She was a Mechanist in Detroit, Michigan; owned and operated Mae’s Restaurant in Smithville; after moving to Beloit she was a caterer; a waitress at Dixie Cream Doughnuts; worked in retail; and was owner of a painting and cleaning business until retirement. She was active in politics, the girl scouts, a volunteer to the Beloit Health Department and school system. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Royce Moore will officiate and burial will be in the Braswell Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Cleo Redmon Banks; a grandson, Michael Elmer; six brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include three children, Robert and his wife Gloria Melton of Beloit, Wisconsin; Nina and husband Randy Rosenbalm of Byron, Illinois; and Ila and husband Tom Monney of Tomahawk, Wisconsin. Five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren survive along with a sister, Rose and husband Haston Adcock of Smithville. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
