64 year old Jimmie A. Evans of Smithville died Friday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center of a short illness. He was a Vietnam Veteran and a retired Master Sergeant (E-8) from the United States Army. He was also the former superintendent for Rhodes Construction Company in Murfreesboro. He was a 1964 graduate of Central High School in Murfreesboro. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry L. Evans of Smithville and his mother-in-law, Ruth White of Murfreesboro. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Susan White Evans; son and daughter-in-law, James R. and Liz Evans; a granddaughter, Megan Evans; step grandchildren, Trevor Taylor, Scheyenne Taylor, and Eric Taylor all of Smithville. He is also survived by his mother, Katie Evans and a sister Lisa Hazlett both of Murfreesboro. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Joan Harrah of Nashville and Jane and husband David Lanehart of Murfreesboro. Nieces also survive. The family has chosen direct cremation but a memorial service will be at DeKalb Funeral Chapel in Smithville on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Thomas Fitts will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Alzheimers Association or the Justin Potter Library.
