73 year old Joe A. Reeder, Sr. of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church for 59 years serving in various capacities. He was one of six people who served at West Side Mission as a representative from the mother church until it was constituted into a church which is now Calvary Baptist Church. Reeder was a member of the Liberty Lodge #77, a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason, and a Shriner. He was employed as a people greeter at Walmart. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mark Bass, Brett McNew, and Anthony Rosolowski will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Reeder was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Elvie Cope Reeder. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Faye Nixon Reeder of Smithville; a son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Shelby Reeder; and a granddaughter, Paige Lauren Reeder all of Smithville. A sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Sonny Thompson of McMinnville. A brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John Robert and June Nixon of Smithville. Two nieces, Gwen and husband Harrell Tolbert and Sandra and husband J.C. Wall of Smithville. One great niece, Tara Tolbert of Smithville. Several aunts and uncles also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center.
