72 year old Joe Wallace Oakley of Sparta died Monday at his residence. He was a farmer. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Peeled Chestnut United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Tommy Davis will officiate and burial will be in the Peeled Chesnut Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Oakley was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Oakley; a son, Darrell Oakley; a sister, Ann Oakley; and parents, Wallace and Grace Allen Oakley. Survivors include two sons, Joe Derek and wife Felisha Oakley of Smithville and Daren and wife Tabitha Oakley of McMinnville. Four grandchildren, Kristen, Mara Jade, Tavia, and Anaka Oakley. Two step-grandchildren, Austin and Dustin Cook. Two brothers, Jimmy and wife Hilda Oakley and Louie and wife Vivian Oakley all of Alexandria. Many nieces and nephews also survive. The family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses, in lieu of flowers.
