78 year old John Thomas Cantrell, Sr. of Smithville died Friday at Centennial Medical Center. He was by faith a Primitive Baptist, a carpenter, and a brick layer. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Paul Violet will officiate and burial will be in the Young Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Cantrell was preceded in death by sons, Johnny Cantrell, Jr., Melvin Shehane, and Anthony Ferrell; grandchildren, Jennifer Shehane and Bridget Bates; parents, Zollie and Mamia Viola Adcock Cantrell; brothers, Gentry Ed and Ernest Cliff Cantrell; and a sister, Jackie Gay. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Cantrell of Smithville. Children, Rita Washer of Knoxville, Wanda Johanson of Smyrna, Karen and husband Spencer Stacy of Smithville, Sarah and husband Devin Rogers of Rock Island, Barbara and husband David Bates of McMinnville, and Ricky and wife Tammy Shehane of Smithville. Daughter-in-law, Felicia Cantrell of Smithville. Brothers, Virgil Seborn and his wife Louise Cantrell and Glynn A. Cantrell both of Smithville, and Zollie D. Cantrell of Knoxville. Sisters, Lillian and husband Brownie Tittsworth of Smithville, Lois and husband J.E. Gay, and Judy and husband Ronnie Cantrell both of McMinnville. Grandchildren, Beverly Sutton, Monica Trottershod, Cristy Spears, Matthew Johanson, Clent Shehane, Rebekkah Johanson, Joshua Cantrell, Travis Shehane, Chassity Rogers, Jessica Shehane, and Malachi Stacy. Eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
