83 year old Maxine Matilda Hale Nokes of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital . She was a native of Cannon County. A member of the Short Mountain Methodist Church, she was a retired School Teacher at Short Mtn. School and Mud College. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Eastern Star. The funeral will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Melton Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Hester Melton Hale; siblings, Ray, Shelah, Paul and James Thomas Hale, Ruth Barrett and Dorothy McDougal. Survivors include her 4 Sons: Gerry (Rita) Nokes and Jeffery (Maureen) Nokes, both of Short Mountain, Nicholas (Patsy) Nokes, Sr., of Liberty; Billy (Kathy) Nokes of Pea Ridge. Grandchildren: Tonya Melton, Stephanie Alexander, Bill, Wesley and Natasha Nokes, Nicholas Nokes, Jr., Sarah, Hannah and Jeffery Nokes, II. A sister: Marie Garrett of the Short Mountain Community. A brother: Billy Hale of Dearborn, Michigan. Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
