The DeKalb County Tigers scored six touchdowns in the season opener at Warren County Friday night. The problem is the Pioneers scored seven touchdowns and won 49 to 42.
Warren County got the ball to start the game and scored on the opening play on an 85 yard kickoff return by Franklin Martin, Jr. The P.A.T. kick by Adam Fann was good and the Pioneers took an early 7-0 lead.
DeKalb County got in the endzone in their first offensive series as Quarterback Hunter Poteete hooked up with Abram Edwards on a 36 yard pass play. The P.A.T. by Zack Taylor was good and the game was tied 7-7
The Pioneers took the lead again in the first quarter as Jay Hutchens scored on a 24 yard touchdown run. The P.A.T. was good and Warren County was on top 14-7.
Late in the first period, Pioneer Quarterback Bradley Steg scored on an 18 yard touchdown run to stretch the Warren County led to 21-7 after the P.A.T..
In the second quarter, Mark Harvey scored on a 20 yard touchdown run to build the Warren County advantage to 28-7 after the P.A.T.
But just before halftime, the Tigers got on the scoreboard again as Quarterback Hunter Poteete scampered into the endzone on a four yard touchdown run. The P.A.T. by Zack Taylor was good and the Tigers trailed 28-14.
DeKalb County drew closer early in the third quarter as Quarterback Hunter Poteete found Frank Morris on a four yard touchdown pass play. The P.A.T. by Zack Taylor was good and the Tigers trailed 28-21
But in their next offensive series, Warren County’s Caleb Northcutt reeled off a 58 yard touchdown run to give the Pioneers a 35-21 lead after the P.A.T
The Tigers got within a touchdown of Warren County again in the third quarter as Frank Morris scored on a 17 yard touchdown pass play from Quarterback Hunter Poteete. Zack Taylor’s P.A.T. was good and DeKalb County trailed 35-28.
Warren County Quarterback Bradley Steg gave his team a two touchdown cushion again late in the third period on a 58 yard touchdown run and after the P.A.T., the Pioneers led 42-28.
The Tigers scored on the ensuing kick off return by Abram Edwards but the play was negated on a penalty. However, DeKalb County would find the endzone again just before the end of the third quarter as Quarterback Hunter Poteete connected with Sonni Young on a 23 yard touchdown pass play. The P.A.T. was good by Zack Taylor and the Tigers trailed 42 to 35.
Warren County moved into field goal position in the fourth quarter but a 34 yard attempt fell short.
The Tigers finally caught up in the fourth period as Quarterback Hunter Poteete found Abram Edwards on a 71 yard pass play for the touchdown. The P.A.T by Zack Taylor was good and the game was tied 42-42.
The Pioneers broke the tie late in the fourth quarter as Quarterback Bradley Steg hooked up with Michael Thrower on an 82 yard pass play for the touchdown. The P.A.T. was good and Warren County went on to win 49 to 42.
