Clarence Aubrey Taylor

76 year old Clarence Aubrey Taylor of LaVergne and a native of DeKalb County died Thursday. He was owner of Taylor’s Auto Repair in LaVergne. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna. Tommy Taylor will officiate and burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, James Bernard and Clara Mae Young Taylor; a son, Randy Taylor; three sisters, Elizabeth Sandlin, Maureen Parsley, and Emma Lee Johnson; and five brothers, Robert, Charlie, Manuel, Ben, and E.J. Taylor. Survivors include daughters, Debra and husband Howard of Charlotte and Linda Biggs of Lebanon. A son, Larry and wife Mary Taylor of Nashville. Daughter-in-law, Diane Taylor of LaVergne. Seventeen grandchildren and thirty three great grandchildren. Lifelong companion, Polly Taylor of LaVergne. Sister, Wilma Redmon of Smithville. Brother, Tommy and wife Geneva Taylor of Smithville. Company Store Damaged in Saturday Night Fire

DeKalb County Volunteer Firefighters prevented the Company Store from being destroyed by a blaze Saturday night.
The business, located on Highway 96 near Cove Hollow, was closed at the time of the fire.
A passerby spotted the blaze coming from the roof on one end of the building and reported it.
County Fire Chief Donny Green told WJLE that members of the Liberty, Temperance Hall, and Main Stations responded along with manpower from other stations. The tanker and equipment truck were also on site. County firefighters contained the blaze to the kitchen and office area side of the building and kept it from spreading.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.

A.Z. Jack Judkins

88 year old A.Z. Jack Judkins of Smithville died Saturday at Centennial Medical Center. The funeral will be today (Monday) at 1:00pm and visitation with the family will be today until service time at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. He was retired from Bobby Phillips Construction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Lorene Cantrell Judkins; three brothers, Jess, Edd, and Frank A. Judkins; a sister, Bet Judkins and two sons-in-law, Wayne Bates and Kenneth Evans. Survivors include four daughters, Vicky Bates of Smithville, Karen and her husband Charles Pollard of Sparta, Janice Evans of Georgia, and Melissa and her husband Jeff Ward. One son, Randy Judkins. Four granddaughters, Angel and her husband Charles Burrage of Smithville, Jennifer and her husband Aaron Young of Sparta, Amanda and her husband Doug Tuder of St. Louis and Tia Ward of Smithville. Two great grandsons, William Cody Burrage of Smithville and Joshua Rice of Sparta. Four sisters, Ophaline Knowles, Nettie and her husband Johnny Ringo all of McMinnville, Martha Ferrell and Ruth Cantrell both of Smithville. Dillard Parkerson

85 year old Dillard Parkerson formerly of Brush Creek, died Friday evening at Quality Care Health Center in Lebanon. Born in DeKalb County, he was the son of the late Oliver and Movie Malone Parkerson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Foutch Parkerson and by his brothers, Toy, Elbert, M.B. and Jim D. Parkerson; sisters, Isabelle Stephens, Bessie Fitts, Sallie Parkerson and an infant sister. Dillard was a carpenter and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by sons, Randy Parkerson and wife, Janet of Lebanon, Gary Williams and wife, Ann of Westmoreland; sister, Ruby Nell Parkerson and brother, John (Ruth) Reynolds both of Alexandria; sisters-in-law, Sherry Parkerson of Smithville and Elizabeth Parkerson of Alexandria; nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home with Chaplin Lemuel Wade officiating. Visitation Noon till 9 p.m. Sunday, 4-9 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. till service time on Tuesday. Interment will be at New Hope Cemetery, Alexandria.

Woman Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

A 50 year old Nashville woman was seriously injured in a motorcycle crash Saturday evening on Highway 96 (Dale Ridge Road)
Central dispatch received the call 5:16 p.m.
Trooper Jimmy Tisdale of the Tennessee Highway Patrol said Terri O. Allbright was operating a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Highway 96 traveling toward Highway 70 when she apparently failed to negotiate a curve and struck a guardrail. She was thrown from the motorcycle over the guardrail. Allbright landed on a wooded embankment off the road.
Allbright was treated at the scene by DeKalb EMS and then loaded onto a ground ambulance and taken to meet a helicopter on Highway 70 at the top of Snow Hill. She was airlifted by Life Force to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville
Sheriff’s department deputies and members of the Main Station and Liberty Stations of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash scene and or helicopter landing zone.

Calvin Davis

90 year old Calvin Davis of Liberty died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah The Baptist Church and he was a retired construction worker and farmer. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tim Pelham and Tim Pack will officiate and burial will be in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hassie Pearl Davis; and three sisters, Nancy Bain, Eastie Bain, Willie Bandy, and Louise Ramsey. Survivors include his wife of 68 years Rosa Lee Davis of Liberty. Four sons, Van and wife Mary Davis of Smithville, Donnie and wife Genrose Davis of Liberty, Mike and wife Elaine Davis of Liberty, and Tim and wife Jo Ann Davis of Pea Ridge. Eight grandchildren, Vanessa and Anthony Pelham of McMinnville, Amy Davis of Pea Ridge, Jana and Patrick Crook of Alexandria, Alayna and Bill Fowler of Liberty, Amanda Lane Davis of Murfreesboro, Courtney Davis and fiance Mikey O’Conner of Liberty, and Brandon and Ethan Davis both of Pea Ridge. Three great grandchildren, Clayton, Summer, and Autumn Crook. Half-sister, Gertrude Jones of McMinnville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to the Mt. Chamber To Celebrate 50 Years At Upcoming Annual Banquet

The 2013 Chamber Annual Membership Banquet is set for Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the DeKalb County Complex, 732 South Congress Blvd., Smithville. “We are excited to again host this enjoyable and informative event. This is a special milestone year for the Chamber as we are celebrating our 50th year. We invite you to share in this fun-filled night of dining, entertainment, and the latest updates from the Chamber including the introduction of our new Board, recognition of our retiring board members, and 2013 Officers,” says Chamber Executive Director Suzanne Williams. In addition, Leadership Director, Jen Sherwood, will present winners for “Community Leader of the Year” and “Legacy” awards.
The special evening begins at 5:30 PM with a “Silent Auction.” The dinner and program start at 6:00 PM. Dinner music will be performed by Tomomi McDowell. State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver will sing the National Anthem as Boy Scout Troop #347 presents the flags. The musical entertainment for the evening will be by local singing talent, Josh Melton. The delicious meal will be prepared by Chef Jason Evans of The Inn at Evins Mill. The Leadership DeKalb Class of 2013 will serve the meal.
The keynote speaker for the evening will be Ralph Vaughn, probably best remembered as the manager of WJLE for 15 years and 21 years as the Program Director and MC of the Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival. Ralph was president of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce in Murfreesboro for 12 years and the Morgan County Chamber of Commerce in Madison, Georgia for 3 years. A native of DeKalb County, he recently retired from Barrett Firearms Manufacturing in Murfreesboro where he served as the Special Projects Coordinator. Ralph is currently serving as the President of the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.

Alfred Landon Hale

76 year old Alfred Landon Hale of Smithville died Thursday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was a retired self employed landscaper and a member of the Open Word Tabernacle. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Sam Kinzer will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Ararat Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Lealh Hale and nine brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Nell Hale and one son, Allan and wife Sonya Hale all of Smithville. THP Sergeant Mark Dial Promoted to Lieutenant

A sergeant in the Cookeville District of the Tennessee Highway Patrol has been promoted to Lieutenant.
Mark Dial is among fifteen members of the THP who were formally recognized for promotions in a special ceremony Thursday at the Tennessee Highway Patrol Training Center in Nashville. The announcement was made by Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security officials Commissioner Bill Gibbons, Deputy Commissioner Larry Godwin, Tennessee Highway Patrol Colonel Tracy Trott, and Assistant Commissioner David Purkey were on-hand to congratulate the employees.
A commissioned state trooper since 1997, Dial’s first assignment was in White County in the Cookeville District. Dial went on to serve as a Road Trooper in White County for nine years. In late 2006, Dial was promoted to Sergeant in Putnam County, where he served for 14 months before transferring to DeKalb County as a Patrol Sergeant over both Dekalb and Smith Counties, where he is currently assigned. Throughout his career, Dial has served as a member of the THP Riot Team, and after being promoted to the rank of Sergeant, he was selected as a Squad Leader on the Riot Squad. Dial is member of the THP Honor Guard. In May of 2011, Dial became the “Officer in Charge” of the Honor Guard.

Sammie Edwin Malone

85 year old Sammie Edwin Malone of the Temperance Hall Community died Thursday at NHC HealthCare Center. He was a farmer. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Snow Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill Yancey and Allie Claro Page Malone. He is survived by a sister, Argie Lamberson of the Temperance Hall Community and several cousins. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
