78 year old Travis Martin Parsley, Jr. of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Bethlehem Community Church and a community man for General Motors. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Satterfield will officiate and burial will be in the Young Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Parsley was preceded in death by his parents, Travis Martin Parsley, Sr. and Emma Bond Parsley; a granddaughter, Charity Stone; two brothers, Glenn Parsley and Maxie Parsley; and a sister, Chloe Cripps. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Judy Parsley of Smithville. Five children, Terry and wife Patricia Parsley of Michigan, Pamela and husband McClure Cantrell of Smithville, Ronald Parsley, Travis E. and wife Shelly Parsley of Illinois, and Regina and husband Jeff Stone of Smithville. 93 year old Sara Jannette Cantrell Atnip of Smithville died Thursday, February 7 at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker and a member of the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. A graveside service was held Saturday, February 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Dr. Robert Atnip and Dr. Max Atnip officiated. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Norman Atnip; parents, Robert Biles and Mary Elizabeth Marchbanks Cantrell; and granddaughter, Jennifer Atnip. Survivors include two sons, Dr. Robert and wife Guylene Atnip of Smithville and Dr. Max and wife Patti Atnip of Cookeville. Six grandchildren, Lisa and Greg Tramel of Baxter, Robert Roy Atnip, Jr. , Tara Jane Atnip Summers, and Jared Atnip all of Smithville, Becky and Chris Atnip Vincent of Oklahoma, and Crystee Atnip Bennett and Will Bennett of Rickman. 90 year old Eula Deane West Jones of McMinnville died Saturday at Raintree Manor. She was a homemaker, member of the Eastern Star, and member of the Shellsford Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of the Gardens of Memory Funeral Home. Jackie Matheney will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home; Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral at 11:00 a.m. at the Gardens of Memory Funeral Home. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest West and Harriet Adcock West; husband, Carl Almon Jones; two brothers, Harrison and Eugene West; seven sisters, Myrtle West, Novella Sandees, Della Mai Stewart, Macon West, Cleopha Wheat, Jessie Wright, Harriet Abolene Lewis; and a half sister, Naoma Turner. Virgil Hibdon, Jr.
63 year old Virgil Hibdon, Jr. of Smithville (Green Hill Community) died Saturday at his residence. He was a member of the Baptist Tabernacle in Smithville and pastor of Macedonia The Baptist Church of Christ in Smith County. He was an ordained minister for the past 38 years and served as moderator of the Union Association of The Baptist from 1991 to 2012. Hibdon was the office manager and beloved employee at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Mike Clayborn, Danny Anderson, James Wright, Darrell Cantrell, and Garry McBride will officiate. Burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruby Braswell Hibdon and three sisters, Eva Barry, Jewel Horner, and Treva Martin. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Watson Hibdon of Smithville. One son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Cheryl Hibdon of McMinnville. 68 year old Clata Rhea Tallent Redmon of the Jefferson Community died Saturday at her residence. She was a former employee of Prospect Inc. She attended the Smithville Church of the Nazarene, and was one of the co-founders of DeKalb County Children’s Service Council. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Trent Colwell and Bryan Jones will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will be Sunday at 5:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Salomon and Bessie Lee Young Tallent; brothers, LeRoy Tallent and nephew, Lynn Tallent. 76 year old Delmar L. Spurlock of Smithville died Wednesday evening at Dekalb Community Hospital. He was born at Statesville, son of the late John and Frances Mandy Spurlock and was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Mashburn Spurlock, a grandson, Nathaniel Joseph Spurlock and his cousin, Jim Spurlock. Delmer was retired from Samsonite and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ. He is survived by his children, James Currie of Huntsville, Alabama; Tammy Currie of DeKalb County, Patricia (Billy) Anderson of Carthage, Donna (Keith) Spriggs and Joseph Spurlock all of DeKalb County, Amanda Moss of Sparta, Charlie Spurlock of DeKalb County; 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; wife, Janie Lawson Spurlock of Smithville and his church members. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Hunter Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Spurlock Cemetery in Statesville. 79 year old James D. Haggard of Cookeville died Tuesday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Putnam County to the late Audra (Brown) and William Jesse Haggard. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
Haggard is survived by a daughter, Anita, wife of Kelly Bryant, of Cookeville; two sons James A, husband of Beverly Haggard, of Orange, Texas and Eddie D Haggard, of Cookeville; a brother, Alton Haggard, of Smithville; 4 Granddaughters Tiffanie Wright of Cookeville, Jennifer and Clark Mathis of Auburntown, Cissy and Jim Rich of Brush Creek and Kailee Bryant of Cookeville. 3 Grandsons Scott & Kurt Haggard of Orange, Texas and Connor Bryant of Cookeville and 5 Great Grandchildren

Billy Ray Atnip
65 year old Billy Ray Atnip of Smithville died Tuesday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was retired from the City of Smithville as a Sanitation truck driver. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from noon until 3:00 p.m. Atnip was preceded in death by his parents, Ezra and Charlie Mae Braswell Atnip; a step-daughter, Shannon Mai Goad; and a nephew, Terry Atnip. 55 year old Charley Howard Bain of Readyville and native of Pea Ridge died Tuesday at the Boulevard Terrace Rehab and Nursing in Murfreesboro. He was disabled. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. David Humphreys will officiate and burial will be in the Hale Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Bain was preceded in death by his parents, Sammy and Jessie Mai Stanley Bain; brothers and sisters, Lilly Stacey, Bonnie, Gertrude, Willie Dean, Jessie Bell, Sammy Clifton, Harrison Ray, Bobby, James, Sammy Jay, and Donald Bain; and daughter,Katherine Moody.
