Pamela Atnip

68 year old Pamela Atnip of Smithville died Tuesday at UMC Lebanon. She was a homemaker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation wil be Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, John Lee Pack; a brother, Willard Lee Pack; and her husband, Joel B. Atnip. Survivors include her mother, Mable Pack of Smithville. Three children, Annette Taylor Ervin of Smithville, Kevin Taylor of Denver, Colorado, and Bridget Atnip of Smithville. Four grandchildren Adam McAtee, Cory McAtee, Trevor Taylor, and Indra Lewis. Sister, Valarie Mears of Centertown. A brother, Robin Pack of Smithville and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Elbert “Les” Foster

92 year old Elbert “Les” Foster of Smithville died Monday at NHC Healthcare Center. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, a retired nursery worker, and a farmer. The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Robert Presley will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the service at 3:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Virginia “Virgie” Cannon Foster; his wife, Lorene Foster; sisters, Maggie Fentress, Gladys Foster, Myrtis Gallion, and Elsie Foster; brothers, Grady, Ernest and Edward Foster; half brothers, Matt, Henry, Kelly, and Claude Foster; and a half sister, Ailene Foster. He is survived by his children, Brenda Driver and Jerry Foster both of Smithville, and Prentice and wife Jan Foster of Sparta. Three grandchildren, Chad Driver and Jalon and Loren Foster. One great grandchild, Caroline Nicole Driver. Several nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Glenn W. Ervin

81 year old Glenn W. Ervin of McMinnville (Gath Community) died Sunday at his residence. He grew up in Smithville. Ervin was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving his country in the Korean War, a retired insurance adjuster, active farmer, and a member of Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Pentecostal faith. Ervin was preceded in death by his parents Alex Wilson and Maggie Pedigo Ervin and his brother Frank Ervin.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Evelyn Harris Ervin of the Gath Community, sons Charles E. Ervin and wife Cynthia of Bethpage and G. Edward Ervin of Cookeville, brother James Ervin and wife Bobby of Smithville and grandchildren Edward Wilson Ervin, Anna Elisabeth Ervin, Olivia Jane Ervin, and Mary Alice Ervin. Many other family members and friends also survive.
The funeral service is at 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Ernest J. Cantrell, Freeman Frothingham and Daniel Stirnemann will officiate. Burial will follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. The Ervin Family will receive friends Thursday from 5 PM until 8 PM and again on Friday from 11 AM until 1 PM at McMinnville Funeral Home

William Jesse Sargent

100 year old William Jesse Sargent of Smithville died Monday at his residence. He was a Methodist and a U.S. Army Veteran. The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service. Sargent is survived by his wife, Judy Close of Smithville. A step-son, Norman and wife Lea Close of Loudon. Two granddaughters, Amanda Corts and Sabrina Fortuny. Three great grandchildren, Josephine Corts and Max and Alex Fortuny. Three siblings, James and Sam Sargent and Emma Jane Smith. The family asks that donations be made to Caring Hearts in memory of Mr. Sargent, in lieu of flowers. H.J. “Dick” Rush

85 year old H.J. “Dick” Rush died Saturday at the Raintree Manor in McMinnville. He was born in Scottsville, Kentucky to Henry and Nora Elmore Rush.
Rush served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate 3rd Class and was a gunner and flight crew member on the TBM Avenger torpedo bombers flying off of aircraft carriers in the Pacific theater. He was the recipient of the Victory Medal for his service as part of our country’s “Greatest Generation.”
Following the war, he was employed as a flight crew member for Eastern Airlines. He met his future wife, Grace Cronce in Los Angeles, California where she was stationed as a stewardess for Trans World Airlines (TWA). Dick and Grace married in 1949 and they lived in Miami, Florida where he was stationed by Eastern Airlines. They moved to Tennessee in 1963 when Dick and his partner bought Nashville franchise rights for the Burger King restaurants. After opening several successful restaurants, he entered the commercial heating and air conditioning business and he developed and installed computerized controls for many of Nashville’s high rise office buildings.
Dick and Grace moved to Smithville, Tennessee in 2008. They were members of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. Grace passed away December 7, 2012. Survivors include 3 Sons, Douglas and his wife, Janette Lohman of St. Louis, Missouri, Stevan of Naples, Florida and Gregory and wife Susan of McMinnville, Tennessee; 4 Grandchildren, Brittney, Brie, William and Melanie. Visitation will be on Tuesday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel from 4:PM until 6:PM and burial will be Wednesday at 1:PM at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Nashville with Pastor David McMinn officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 4083 Yager Road, McMinnville, Tennessee 37110. Donations may also be made at the funeral home.

Charles Harry Morgret

74 year old Charles Harry Morgret of Smithville died Monday at Veterans Hospital in Nashville. He was a Baptist and a truck driver. A Masonic service will be Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. He is survived by best friend and caregiver, Ellen Ammons of Smithville. One brother, Norman Morgret of Maryland. Two sisters, Edie Hunt and Myra Morgret of Maryland. Step children, Darrin and Devin. Two step grandchildren, Nathaniel and Blaine. Two close Masonic friends, Harold Hoover and Dennis Boland. Joshua Adam Colwell

34 year old Joshua Adam Colwell of Murfreesboro died Wednesday at Stonecrest Medical Center in Smyrna. He was employed with Aloriconn as a Material Handler. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Colwell is survived by his parents, Roy and Debbie Colwell of Murfreesboro. A brother, Chris and wife Tasha Colwell of Smithville. Sister, Mandy Colwell of Murfreesboro. Special nephew, Eli Colwell. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins survive. Betty E. Foutch

60 year old Betty E. Foutch of Woodbury died Tuesday at NHC Healthcare in Smithville
She was born in Woodbury, the daughter of the late Elsie and Altie Tate Vickers. She was also preceded in death by her Brother; Douglas Vickers. She was a home health nurse and a member of the Sycamore Baptist Church.
Mrs. Foutch is survived by her Son; Michael (Nicola) Foutch of Liberty, TN., Sister; Glenda (Melvin) Barrett of Pleasant View, TN., and Four Grandchildren; Matthew, Taylor, Jesse, and Thomas Foutch.
Graveside Services and burial are scheduled to be conducted 11AM Thursday at Pleasant View Cemetery in Woodbury
Visitation with the Foutch family will be at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria on Wednesday from 4PM to 8PM.

Ricky Lynn Vick

56 year old Ricky Lynn Vick of Dowelltown died Tuesday at Alive Hospice in Nashville. Born in Nashville, Vick was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dowelltown. The funeral will be Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the service. His parents were Ralph Frank Vick and Ruthene Murphy. He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Thomas of Kentucky. A brother, Jerry Wayne Vick of Dowelltown. A sister, Beverly and husband Wilbur Bowman of Madison and a nephew, Matthew Bowman of Madison. Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria is in charge of the arrangements.

81 year old Harold Adcock of Smithville died early Wednesday morning at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Keltonburg Church of Christ and a nurseryman of Harold Adcock and Sons. The funeral will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Eugene Adkins and Phillip Adcock will officiate and burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Obie and Effie Mae Adcock. Survivors include two sons, Larry and wife Loretta Adcock of Smithville and Douglas Adcock of Murfreesboro. Two grandchildren, Michael Adcock and Anthony Adcock of Smithville.
