84 year old Dr. Don Ray Krohn of Eugene, Oregon and formerly of Smithville died Friday at his residence in Oregon. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Dr. Krohn worked for many years as a physician in the Detroit area before working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the University of Tennessee (Erlanger Hospital). The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Larry Green will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. 57 year old Delois Faith Ward Thurman of Dowelltown died Saturday, August 3 at her residence. She was a former waitress in the food industry. She was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the Indian Creek Baptist Church. Mike Carpenter will officiate. 41 year old Eddie Smith, Jr. of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a welder for the Yorozu Corporation. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dry Creek Baptist Church. Smith was preceded in death by his father, Orbra Smith, Sr. and grandmother, Deloris Miller. 79 year old John A. Palmer, Jr. of Gainesville, Florida died Saturday, July 27 in Florida. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired pharmacist. A graveside service was held Friday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Royce Martin officiated. Palmer was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Fuson Palmer. Survivors include a son, John III and wife Elizabeth Palmer of Florida and their son, Henry. One daughter, Janna and husband Evan Reid of Florida and their children, Jack and Evan. 54 year old Pamela Sue Hitchcock of the Dibrell community died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. A Freewill Baptist, she was formerly employed at Star Manufacturing. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Crain Hill Cemetery. 70 year old Leslie Howard Moore of Rock Island, died Wednesday at his residence. He was born in Cannon County, Mr. Moore retired from the State of Tennessee with the Division of Property Assessment. He was a member of New Union The Baptist Church, has served as a minister in The Baptist Church Associations for 30 years, was a member of Short Mountain Masonic Lodge No. 373, and was an avid hunter. Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents Orville Howard and Grace Cope Moore.
Survivors include his wife Gail Moore, sons Mark Moore, Rock Island, TN, Paul (Joann) Moore, Smyrna, TN, and Jonathan (Crystal) Moore, Rock Island, TN, and daughter Abigail (Eric) Wood, McMinnville, TN, grandchildren Jordan, Nathaniel, Anthony, and Hailey Moore, and Caleb and Aniston Wood, and brother Lynn (Helen) Moore, Rock Island, TN. Several nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.

97 year old Pauline Malone Tramel of Nashville died Tuesday, July 23, at her residence. She was a dedicated educator having served at Liberty High School and at Watertown. She was a Christian leader in the Methodist Church, Civic organizer, loving mother, grandmother, and wife. She was a graduate of State Teacher’s College in Murfreesboro in 1939 and taught in the DeKalb County and Metro Nashville public school system for 27 years, and was a member of Belle Meade United Methodist Church. Her roots ran deep in DeKalb County with relatives in the Malone and Tramel families. The funeral will be will be held Wednesday, July 31, at Noon at Belle Meade United Methodist Church with a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. at Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at 12:00 noon at Belle Meade United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James V. Tramel and son, Jim Tramel. She is survived by a son, Lynn Tramel and daughter-in-law, Toni Tramel, and granddaughter, Blair Tramel. Tramel Scholarship Fund at Martin Methodist College or to Belle Meade United Methodist Church where she was an active member for 61 years. 48 year old Miranda Joy (Mosely) Fox of Gordonsville died Sunday at Vanderbilt Hospital. She was a DeKalb County native and a homemaker. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Christ Church Pentecostal of Gordonsville, where she was a member. Kerry Dugan will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. 68 year old Alan “Bear” Rozelle of Liberty died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was office coordinator at Federal Mogul and owner of Picker’s Delight Music Store. Rozelle was also an Army Veteran, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Short Mountain Lodge #373. He was preceded in death by parents Nelson Floyd, Sr. and Mary Davenport Rozelle. One brother, Nelson Rozelle, Jr. and one niece, Laura Rozelle. He is survived by two daughters, Michelle and Paul Oswald of Carthage, and Renee and Troy Guzenski of Pennsylvania; three grandchildren, Vanessa Oswald, Ella and Ethan Guzenski, and one sister-in-law, May Rozelle of Pennsylvania. 94 year old Beulah Mai Hendrixson of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was retired from Fuston’s Five and Dime Store and a member of the Snow Hill United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Royce Martin, Jim Rogers, and Doyle Slager will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-9 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. Hendrixson was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Hendrixson; parents, Isaac and Callie Dirting Smith; a brother, Othel Smith; and two sisters, Maureen Tramel and Alvilda Hendrixson.
