Emory Paul Kirksey

94 year old Emory Paul Kirksey of Chattanooga died Monday at Hickory Valley Retirement Center. He was a Baptist and a retired Air Traffic Controller with the FAA. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Mark Bass will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kirksey was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Carlton and Ida Theus Kirksey; his wife, Deanne Paris Kirksey; and a brother, Addis Kirksey. Survivors include a brother, Rufus Clayton Kirksey; nephews, Kenneth and Phillip Kirksey; and a niece, Tina Barger. A step-sister, Dorothy Hinton Jinks and a step-brother, Cecil Hinton. T.J. White

73 year old T.J. White of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He worked as a farmhand. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Tommy Taylor will officiate and burial will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Elsie Bennett White. He is survived by four sisters, JoDean Redmon, Jewell Tate, LaVelle Anderson, and Joyce Webster. Brother-in-law, Paul Webster. Several nieces and nephews. Lena Mae Reeder

93 year old Lena Mae Reeder of Alexandria died Saturday morning at NHC Health Care in Smithville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, J.L. Reeder on Nov. 6, 2012. Lena was the daughter of the late Will and Mallie Young Sorrells and was preceded in death by 4 brothers 4 sisters and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by 3 sons, William Edward Reeder and wife, Patsy, Fred Allen Reeder and wife, Edwina and Charles Thomas Reeder; 5 daughters, Virginia Ann Curtis and husband, Tommy, Betty Ruth Swindell and husband, Sam, Nancy Marie Hayes and husband, Joe, Carolyn Frances Rice and husband, Gary, Linda Gale George and husband, Jimmy; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Rev. Gary Rickman and Rev. Tommy Curtis officiating. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Monday and prior to services on Tuesday. Burial will be at Poplar Hill Cemetery.

Haskel Junior Hawkins

69 year old Haskel Junior Hawkins of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church and a co-owner of Hawkins and Cook Construction Company. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Hawkins was preceded in death by his wife Judy Russell Hawkins; parents, William Haskel Hawkins and Bonnie Barnes Turner; and a son, Shane Hawkins. Survivors include a daughter, Jan and husband Allen Wilkins of Smithville. A son, Ricky Hawkins of Sparta. His wife, Ann Hawkins of Smithville. Walter Lee Burnett

Mr. Walter Lee Burnett, age 84 of Alexandria, TN passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Mr. Burnett was born October 2, 1928 in Atlanta, GA the son of the late John Elder Burnett and Pearl O’Kelley. He married Dorothy Louise Gray Burnett on June 11, 1948 and she preceded him in death on October 2, 2010. He was also preceded in death by Three Siblings; Benjamin Burnett, Jimmy Burnett, and Juanita Screws, Niece; Pat Pittman, and Great Granddaughter; McKinsey Grace Cannon. Mr. Burnett owned and operated Burnett’s Dental Lab in Atlanta until 1980, when he moved to Alexandria. After moving to Alexandria he opened his Dental Lab and operated it there until his death. He was a member of Atlanta First Church of the Nazarene until moving to Alexandria and becoming a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church.
Mr. Burnett is survived by Three Children; Danny (Rebecca) Burnett of Dowelltown, TN, Louise (Lloyd) Dyer of Alexandria, TN, Sharon (Sam) Cooke of Alexandria, TN. Seven Grandchildren; Justin Burnett of Dowelltown, TN, Jeremy (Cindy) Burnett of Antioch, TN, Keith Cannon of Cookeville, TN, Tracy (Leslie) Cannon of Dowelltown, TN, Brandon Dyer of Alexandria, TN, Sunny (Joe) Hunt of Dacula, GA, and Spencer Lee Hatchett of Lawrenceville, GA. Special Friend; Brenda Cannon of Cookeville, TN. Two Step Grandchildren; Lisa (Todd) Hieatt of Cookeville, TN and Denise (Brian) Hiatt of Franklin, TN. Five Great Grandchildren; Madelene Lee Burnett, Peyton Cannon, Devin Cannon, Noah Cannon, and Hunter Bryce Cannon.
Funeral Services for Mr. Burnett are scheduled to be conducted 1PM, Friday, July 19, 2013 at Alexandria First Baptist Church. Bro. Billie Friel will officiate and Interment will follow in the Hillview Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation with the Burnett family will be at Avant Funeral Home on Thursday from 2PM to 8PM and on Friday at Alexandria First Baptist Church after 11AM.

William Carl Holmes

William Carl Holmes, age 82, passed away on July 13, 2013. Mr. Holmes worked at TRW/RossGear and was a member of the Crossville Church of God. (Alma) Holmes, and John Holmes; sisters: Diane (Jimmy) Smith, Beverly (Neal) Denton, Frances Martin, and Estelle Martin; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Eddie Davis, parents Jonah and Ruby Sircy Holmes, and siblings Paul Holmes, J.P. Holmes, Mayzelle Albritton, Mary Munsey, and James Shepherd Holmes.

85 year old Clyde “Tommy” Judkins of Smithville died Monday at Raintree Manor in McMinnville. He was a Methodist and a retired employee of Powermatic. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 pm. at the DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mike Neal and Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Judkins was preceded in death by his parents, Poper and Ruth Allen Lynam Judkins; his wife Betty Judkins; brothers, Troy and Glynn Judkins; and a sister, Ravanell Driver. Survivors include a daughter, Beverly and husband Tink Barnes of Smithville. One granddaughter, Heather and husband Keith Phillips of Franklin. Audrey Jean Summers

78 year old Audrey Jean Summers of Smithville died Sunday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Jack Patterson, Mark Summers, and Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Summers was preceded in death by her father, Olen Patterson; her husband, Bill Summers and a sister, Nell Cantrell. Survivors include two children, Mark and wife Nan Summers of Waycross, Georgia and Malia and husband David Laird of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Jason and wife Trina Summers of Glennville, Georgia; Adam and wife Melody Summers of Chelsea, Michigan; Rachel and husband Daniel Guenther of Wayne, Michigan; Timothy and wife Hope Summers of Waycross, Georgia; and Jack Famulski of Smithville. Willard Woodrow Johnson

Funeral services for 91 year old Willard Woodrow Johnson of Baxter, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with eulogies provided by his family. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Johnson died Thursday morning in NHC of Sparta.
Johnson was born in Baxter to the late William Louis and Mary Lula Johnson Sr.
After serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, Willard along with his brother J. T. Johnson started Johnson’s Nursery in Baxter in 1946. Their father, the late W. L. Johnson started the Baxter Nursery in 1918. In 1949, the Johnson brothers built the first glass-covered green house between Nashville and Knoxville. They were the first in the state to root Japanese Hollies and Taxus yews in a greenhouse. Willard’s son, Chuck Johnson started his retail center in Cookeville in 1968. Chuck with his wife Sarah and two sons now operate the Johnson Nursery and Garden Center in Cookeville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Palk; two sisters, Florence Martin and Elizabeth Cullen; and five brothers, Dr .Louis Johnson, Jr., Hubert Johnson, Bernice Johnson, John Thomas Johnson Sr., and Harold Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years Agnes Yates Johnson (whom he married May 28, 1940 in Albany, Kentucky); son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuck” W. and Sarah Johnson of Cookeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dr. Ray Troop of McMinnville and Louise and Richard Charles of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Jennifer( Dr. John) Little of Knoxville, Charlie (Rebecca) Johnson, David (Susan) Johnson all of Cookeville, Russell ( Michelle) Palk, and Beth Palk all of Franklin, TN; 12-great grandchildren, John Grant, Matthew, and Sarah Frances Little; Conner and Cooper Palk; Callaway, and Abbey Palk; Leah and Foster Johnson; Anna, Emma, and Will Johnson.
Johnson’s family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until service time at the Baxter Chapel.

50 year old Felicia Suzzette Cantrell of Smithville died Thursday at her residence. She was a member of the New Bildad Primitive Baptist Church and an employee of Federal Mogul. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Elder Ricky Arnold will officiate and burial will be in the New Bildad Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. Cantrell was preceded in death by her husband, John T. Cantrell, Jr.; her father, Maxi Shehane; a brother, Melvin Shehane and a half-brother, Anthony Ferrell. Survivors include her son and his Fiancee, Josh Cantrell and Shanea Nixon of Smithville. Daughter and son-in-law, Cristy and Jonathan Spears of Smithville. Grandchildren, Kaleb and Ethan Spears of Smithville. Mother, Ruth Cantrell of Smithville.
