Willard Woodrow Johnson

Funeral services for 91 year old Willard Woodrow Johnson of Baxter, will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home with eulogies provided by his family. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Johnson died Thursday morning in NHC of Sparta.
Johnson was born in Baxter to the late William Louis and Mary Lula Johnson Sr.
After serving in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, Willard along with his brother J. T. Johnson started Johnson’s Nursery in Baxter in 1946. Their father, the late W. L. Johnson started the Baxter Nursery in 1918. In 1949, the Johnson brothers built the first glass-covered green house between Nashville and Knoxville. They were the first in the state to root Japanese Hollies and Taxus yews in a greenhouse. Willard’s son, Chuck Johnson started his retail center in Cookeville in 1968. Chuck with his wife Sarah and two sons now operate the Johnson Nursery and Garden Center in Cookeville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Palk; two sisters, Florence Martin and Elizabeth Cullen; and five brothers, Dr .Louis Johnson, Jr., Hubert Johnson, Bernice Johnson, John Thomas Johnson Sr., and Harold Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years Agnes Yates Johnson (whom he married May 28, 1940 in Albany, Kentucky); son and daughter-in-law, Charles “Chuck” W. and Sarah Johnson of Cookeville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dr. Ray Troop of McMinnville and Louise and Richard Charles of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Jennifer( Dr. John) Little of Knoxville, Charlie (Rebecca) Johnson, David (Susan) Johnson all of Cookeville, Russell ( Michelle) Palk, and Beth Palk all of Franklin, TN; 12-great grandchildren, John Grant, Matthew, and Sarah Frances Little; Conner and Cooper Palk; Callaway, and Abbey Palk; Leah and Foster Johnson; Anna, Emma, and Will Johnson.
Johnson’s family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until service time at the Baxter Chapel.

Miles Daniel Shepard, Jr

92 year old Miles Daniel Shepard, Jr. of Smithville died Monday at NHC of Smithville. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was previous owner/operator of Simsberry Ford in Simsberry, Connecticut. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bernard Houk will officiate and burial will be in the Young-Bend Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Shepard was preceded in death by his parents, Miles, Sr. and Ethel Shepard. Survivors include two daughters, Susan and husband Thomas Lord and Wendy and husband Phillip Wise. Seven grandchildren, Scott and wife Angie St. Pierre, Sean Griffin, Heath and wife Jeanie Griffin, Rachel Griffin Bull and husband Brad, Brett Wise, Shane Lord, and Chandler Wise. Ten great grandchildren, Aaron, Collin, Easton, and Adalyn St. Pierre, Faith, Cole, and Kendyl Griffin, Lexie Bull, and Olivia Bull and Krista Owens. Dolores Reynolds

82 year old Dolores Reynolds of Alexandria died Sunday at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a DeKalb County native, a restaurant owner, and a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in Hillview Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Malone and Lucille Oakley Malone. Reynolds is survived by her husband of 68 years, Henry Wade Reynolds. Children, Bobby Sherrell and wife Caroyln Reynolds of Alexandria and Jeff and wife Barbara Reynolds of Alexandria. May Rigsby

88 year old May Rigsby of Smithville died Friday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was self-employed and a member of the Spring Street The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. James Wright and David Frazier will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Wallace and Elva Lee Henry Gooch; a son, Dennis Rigsby; a brother, Pollard Henry; and a sister, June Williams. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Willie Rigsby of Smithville. Grandchildren, Tommy and Susanne Rigsby of Oregon and Shannon and Dale Garner of Morrison. Billy Leonard Shinkle

32 year old Billy Leonard Shinkle of Woodbury died Tuesday at River Park Hospital. A memorial service will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Shinkle was preceded in death by his father, Michael Poe. Survivors include his wife, Jada Shinkle of Smithville. One son, Jacob Shinkle of Woodbury. One daughter, Carol Ann Shinkle of Smithville. Mother, Carol Sue Lentner of Indiana. Step-father, Harold Lentner of Indiana. One brother, Michael Poe of Indiana. One sister, Jeanie Pack of West Virginia. Two step brothers, Joe and Harold Lentner of Indiana and a step sister, Amanda Lentner of Indiana. Malcolm Lewis “Mike” Johnson

66 year old Malcolm Lewis “Mike” Johnson of Crossville died Wednesday at his son’s residence. He was of the Protestant faith, a truck driver, and a U.S. Marine and Army Veteran. Mr. Johnson’s request was to be cremated. There will be no visitation or services held. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luey and Ruby Estel Johnson and a brother, Stanley “Doc” Johnson. Johnson is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Johnson of Crossville. A son and daughter-in-law, James and Tina Boston of Dowelltown. Grandchildren, Ashley Bain of McMinnville, Anthony Bain of Dowelltown, Michael and Shelby Ripley and Ronnie Ripley all of Crossville. Great grandchildren, Natalya McCarty of McMinnville, Arissa, Dyson, and Kenan Ripley all of Crossville. A sister, Betty Jo and husband Charles Smith of McMinnville. A brother, Johnny Johnson of Tennessee. A niece, Ruby and husband Lewis McCormick and Brianna of McMinnville. Nephews, Cordell, Samuel, Adam, and Matthew Smith all of McMinnville. 83 year old Rose Marie Adcock of Dowelltown died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Larry Steffee will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Adcock was preceded in death by her husband, Haston C. Adcock; two sons, Danny L. Adcock and Ronald J. Adcock. Six brothers, Albert, Woodrow, Charles, Toby, Gordon, and Bobby Banks; and three sisters, Jessie Melton, Margaret Banks, and Omega Banks. She is survived by three sons, Gary Adcock of Smithville, Eddie and wife Kimberlee Adcock of Michigan, and Kenneth Adcock of Arizona. Six grandchildren, Matthew and Monica Adcock of Colorado, Anthony Adcock of Smithville, Kyle and Kory Adcock of Michigan, Holly and Dale Bryant of Smithville, and Johnathan Adcock of Smithville. Five great grandchildren, Eddie, Makenzie, and Madison Adcock of Colorado, Devin Thomas and Destiny Thomas of Smithville. One great great grandson, Zayne Thomas of Smithville. Mildred Inez Glenn

90 year old Mildred Inez Glenn of McMinnville and a native of DeKalb County died Friday at her residence following an extended illness.
Retired from Gribble’s Meat Processing and a member of the Church of Christ at Bybee Branch, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Sertie Ray Gribble. She was married to Leonard Woodrow Glenn who preceded her in death. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and J.B. Gribble.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dwight Barrett of McMinnville; two granddaughters, Courtney Barrett of Gallatin, and Lyndsey Bouldin and husband Tyler of McMinnville; step-grandson, Jason Barrett of Nashville, two sisters-in-law, Christine Gribble and Delores Glenn both of McMinnville; brother-in-law, Harold Glenn of McMinnville; and several nieces, nephews and friends

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday in High’s Chapel with Tony Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at High’s.

90-year-old Marjorie Henegar Smith died Saturday morning at Webb House in Smithville. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 2 at 1:00 at First Baptist Church in Smithville. Rev. Rick Roberts will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb County Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home, and Tuesday from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Smithville.
Smith, a Warren County native was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Sally Henegar of McMinnville; her husband, Jack Coleman Smith, Sr. of Smithville; two sisters, Dora Hayden Norris and Betty Jo Phillips of McMinnville.
Survivors include four sons, Jack and Linda Smith, and Jim and Joye Smith of Lexington, Kentucky, Tyree and Joyce Smith of McMinnville and Karl and Pam Smith of Nicholasville, Kentucky, one daughter, Keely and Tim Hogan of Nolensville, Tennessee; and one sister, Sarah Moore of McMinnville. 12 grandchildren, Leah Jones, Jennifer Smith, Marta Scroggin, Jason Smith, Nathan Smith, Alan Smith, Ryan Smith, Mandy Rawls, Jonathan Smith, Kathryn Maupin, Cole Hogan and Solomon Smith along with 21 great grandchildren.

92 year old Hazel Adcock of Smithville died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Keltonburg Methodist Church.
