56 year old Shelia Austin of Elkton, Kentucky died early Thursday morning there. She was a member of the Church of God. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Marty Goddard will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry Austin; parents, James and Marion Jackson; and a sister, Linda Carol Jackson. Survivors include a son, Scott and wife Brandi Austin and two grandchlldren, Sean and Jade Austin all of Woodbury. One brother, Donnie and wife Cindy Jackson of Lebanon. Buford Wayne Blair

73 year old Buford Wayne Blair of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church and he had been a Game Warden with the TWRA. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson and Carl Cude will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 1:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. Blair was preceded in death by his parents, William Howard and Anna Opal Porterfield Blair. Survivors include his wife, Sue Robinson Blair; daughter, Karen and husband Shawn Jacobs; son, Keith Wayne and wife Amanda Blair; step daughter, Vicki and husband David Haggard all of Smithville. Step son, Tim and wife Hollie Adcock of Jackson, Tennessee. Nine grandchildren, Justin Nokes, Katie Haggard, Kathryn Blair, Caitlin Blair Jacobs, Anna Rachel Blair and William Blair all of Smithville, Ryan Haggard of Georgia, Jackson Adcock and Caroline Adcock both of Jackson. Nadine Martin Ferrell

79 year old Nadine Martin Ferrell of Woodbury died Thursday at her home. She was a member of the Baptist Church and was retired from Val-Dor. Ferrell was a native of DeKalb County and was the daughter of the late Hobert Martin and Daisy Clayborn Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hoyte Ferrell. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home. Mike Clayborn and Thurman Seber will officiate. Burial will be in the Gunter-Grizzle Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. She is survived by her children, Lenwood (Joyce) Ferrell of DeKalb County and Shirley Ferrell of Woodbury. Grandchildren: Jennifer Ferrell, Elizabeth Ferrell, Brayden Ferrell, Stephanie Amanti, and Robert Losacco. Great Grandchildren, Jayden Amanti, Aiden Amanti, and Riley Losacco. Claude Albert Mills

87 year old Claude Albert Mills of Alexandria died Tuesday at NHC Health Care in Smithville. Born in Dandridge, TN, he was the son of the late Rev. William Mitchell Mills and Nora Holt Mills and was preceded in death by 3 brothers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific were he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mills was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Lebanon and a retired Inspector with the U.S. Dept. of Defense. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lee Capps Mills of Alexandria; daughter, Rebecca Ann McBride and husband, Russell of Lancaster, Ohio; son, David Lee Mills and wife, Janet of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; grandchildren, Zachary McBride of Lancaster, Ohio, Laurel (Gary) Foreman of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, Alisha (Michael) Wilhide of Troy, North Carolina, Judith (Bubba) Oliver and Samuel (Alyse) Mills all of Watertown, and Hannah and Micah Mills both of Paposa Springs, Colorado; great grandchildren, Kailee Forman, Claudia, Jesse and Cohen Wilhide, Dakota Dotson, Dailey and MacKenzie Oliver, Tristen Mills, Scarlett and Savannah Mills; niece, Carolyn (Delano) Griffee of Ashville, North Carolina. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown with Gary Wilson officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday and prior to the service on Saturday. Ann Shores

The funeral services for 72 year old Ann Shores of Silver Point will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Herrens Chapel Church of Christ with burial to follow in Smellage Memory Gardens in the Boma Community of Putnam County. Phillip Loftis and Jonathan Loftis will officiate.
Mrs. Shores died Thursday afternoon at her home.
She was born in Putnam County to the late Charlie and Sallie Fisher Herren.
She was owner of Ann’s Tax Service in Gordonsville for the past 26 years but had been involved in tax preparation for over 40 years. She was a 1959 graduate of Baxter Seminary and was a member of Herrens Chapel Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Herren and Lois Cronk; and three brothers, Charlie Richard Herren, C.A. Herren, and J.D. Herren.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Harold Shores; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Tim McConnell of Cookeville; son, Terry Shores and special friend, Carol Spurr of Silver Point; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary (Darius) Ramsey of Cookeville, Wanda (Jimmy) Maxwell of Silver Point; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Herman(Georgia) Herren of Clinton, Edward (Pearl) Herren of Anderson, South Carolina, Howard Herren, and Paul (Sara) Herren all of Silver Point; grandchildren, Joshua(Becca) Brown, Jeremy (Kristin) Brown, Coty Spurr and Cheyenne Shores; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Shores family will receive friends Saturday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home and Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.

Jerry James Owens

61 year old Jerry James Owens of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a deliveryman for Estes Furniture Company. The family has chosen direct cremation. No services are planned. Owens was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jim B. and Goldie Martin, and Calvin and Stella Owens; three uncles, four aunts, and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Owens of Smithville. Two sons, Andre L. Owens of McMinnville and Darry Owens of Knoxville. Parents, James and Peggy Owens of Smithville. Thirteen grandchildren, one great grandchild. One brother, Terry Owen of Smithville. Special stepson, Jermaine McCoy of Smithville. Special aunt, Mary McCoy. Sally Ann Dowling Shepard

83 year old Sally Ann Dowling Shepard of Smithville died Sunday at her residence. She was a Catholic and a retired officer manage for Dr. Joseph Crosby. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church. Father David Cooney will officiate and burial will be in the Young Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Shepard was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Catherine Fleming Dowling. She is survived by her husband, Miles D. Shepard and a sister, Elizabeth Dowling both of Smithville. Two step-daughters, Susan and husband Thomas Lord of Florida and Wendy and husband Phil Wise of Arizona. Seven step grandchildren and special friend, Cliff Julian of Florida. 85 year old Audrey Dell Harris of Smithville died Friday night at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a Baptist and a retired shirt factory worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mike Carpenter will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 4:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher Columbus and Clara Colwell Young; husband, Wesley Harris; daughter, Jo Anna Arnold; and two brothers, Kelly and James Young. Survivors include two children, Danny and wife Kathy Young of Elizabethton and Janis Evans of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Rhonda and husband Tim Young, Chad Young, Emily Young, and Lindsay Young. Frances Allen Caplinger

92 year old Frances Allen Caplinger of Smithville died Friday morning at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a retired X-Ray Technician and a member of the Faith Congregational Methodist Church in Dowelltown. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mark Miller will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Caplinger; parents, Alvie and Ollie Page Allen; sister, Grace Allen Oakley; a brother, Jack Allen; a niece, Ann Oakley; and nephews, Joe Oakley and Doyle Caplinger. Survivors include nephews, Jimmy and wife Hilda Oakley of Liberty and Louie and wife Vivian Oakley of Alexandria. Felix Cleveland Watts

76 year old Felix Cleveland Watts died Thursday March 14th at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was a former heavy equipment operator with Jones Brothers Constuction Company and a Baptist. A graveside memorial service will be Sunday March 24th at 1:00pm at Mt. Holly Cemetery in Smithville.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Plea and Lucy Maggart Watts, two brothers: Royce and Hois Watts and one sister Mandy Watts.
Mr. Watts is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen Watts of Chattanooga. One son Brian Eric & wife Nicole Watts of Chattanooga and 8 additional children all of Oklahoma. Four sisters: Ruth Ashford of Water Town, Linda Hamlet of Smithville, Ann Ferguson of Water Town and Sue Phann of Woodbury. Four brothers: Bud and wife Vicky Watts and Junior and wife Rose Watts of Woodbury, David and wife Connie Watts of McMinnville and John and wife Alicia Watts of Sims, Texas. Several nieces and nephews survive. Love Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
