70 year old Bonnie Ruth Howell of Smithville died Sunday night at the Upper Cumberland Hospice House in Cookeville. She was a retired cook at DeKalb Community Hospital and a member of the Covenant Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Hill Howell; parents, Robert and Louise Tarr Baker; a grandchild, Hannah Ashford; a brother, H.B. Baker; and a sister, Georgia Barber. Survivors include five daughters, Louise Howell of Smithville, Annette Cox of South Carolina, and Kelly Barnes of Smithville, Tracie and husband Wayne Tramel of Dowelltown and Robin Keaton of Smithville. One son, Joey Howell of Smithville. Thirteen grandchildren, Renee Steff, Brandon Cox, Charles Cox, Samantha Bowman, and Crystal Conners all of Smithville, Kayla Miller of Dowelltown, Stephen Howell, Braxton Howell, Dalton Howell, and Landon Jones all of Smithville, Emily Keaton of Woodbury, Lucas Hale of Liberty and Madison Bass of Smithville. Landon “Mutt” Mathis age 55 of Smithville, passed away Sunday night, June 28, 2015 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1959 to his parents, the late Floyd and Nancy Bain Mathis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death sister, Patricia McCollough, 4 brothers, Freddie Dean, Larry, Julis Lee and Bobby Mathis. Ms. Janie Raymond Love age 81 of Smithville, passed away Monday afternoon at the DeKalb Community Hospital. Janie was born December 30, 1933 to her parents, the late Bernard and Letha Young Raymond. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glynn Roy Love and a brother, B.L. Raymond. She was a homemaker and member of the Indian Mound The Baptist Church. Survivors include 1 nephew, Earl Raymond of Smithville; sister-in-law, Helen Raymond of Smithville; 2 great-nephews, Brian (Kristin) Raymond of Kentucky and Adam (Amy) Raymond of Smithville. Elene Odom Hayes went to her eternal life June 25, 2015 at Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, GA, surround by family.
She was born September 5, 1922 in Smithville, Tennessee. At the age of three she decided she would become a teacher and never strayed from that goal. After graduating from high school she attended Cumberland University and met a handsome dark headed soldier named Louis A. Miller. It was love at first sight and they wrote to each other while he was overseas in World War II. She graduated from Middle Tennessee Teachers College with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1945 and they were married in July of 1946.
She continued her education at George Peabody College and taught school throughout Metro Nashville Public School system and DeKalb County Schools in Elementary and Middle School where she retired in 1989 after teaching for 45 years. She loved teaching children to read and treated every child in her classroom equally and with kindness and respect. Former students and fellow teachers had deep admiration for her professionalism and her ability to control a classroom without raising her voice.
She had a deep abiding faith and studied the bible daily. In addition to her Friendship Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church Smithville she was also a member of the Easter Star, Retired Teachers Association, American Legion Auxiliary and numerous clubs throughout her lifetime. She took time to visit hospitals, nursing and retirement homes and made phone calls to homebound friends. She never wanted anyone to feel lonely or unloved. She loved deeply and forgave quickly.
She loved her family, friends and neighbors, especially her four granddaughters. Her legacy continues in her son, Carlton Miller of Smithville ; daughter, Carlene Miller Hurst, son-in-law Hughes Hurst of Lawrenceville, GA; granddaughters Meredith Hurst Campbell (Kyle) of Atlanta, Georgia, Victoria Hurst of Chicago, IL, Katherine Miller and Elizabeth Miller of New London, CT. Also, her brother, Hoyte Odom, sister-in-law Joann Odom of Smithville and many cousins, nieces and nephews; special neighbors Joe and Helen Taylor.
Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her parents, Pascal Clayborn Odom and Lula Maude Gilreath Odom; husband Louis A. Miller of 34 years; sister Gladys Knowles (whom everyone thought was her twin) . Later in life she married but was sadly preceded in death by husband Wilson Cripps and then Verble Hayes.
Visitation with family will be Monday, June 29, 2015 at 1:00 p.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Christian Fellowship Center of First United Methodist Church 102 W. Church St., Smithville, TN 37166
Memorial Service at 4:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church located at 108 N. 4th St.
The Rev. Michael W. Hurst and Rev. Randall Ganues will be officiating.

Paul “Coach” Parker age 65 of the Dibrell Community passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015 at River Park Hospital in McMinnville. Paul was born May 21, 1950 to his parents, the late Ralph Gibbons Parker and Grace Ike Womack Parker. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Mary Ann. He was a Presbyterian, retired Teacher and Basketball Coach. Paul was survived by his companion, Mandy Johnson of Dibrell Community; 3 sons, Brad (Kim) Parker of Ringgold, GA, Jeremy (Emily) Parker of Knoxville, Bryan Parker of Dibrell; 6 grandchildren, Alex, Braley, Grant, Luke and Grady Sue Parker and Kaelob Flood; mother, Grace Parker of Sparta. Roy Perry Nichols, age 70, of Woodbury passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital. He was a native of Cannon County.
Survivors include Brothers, Thomas Earl Nichols & W.R. Nichols both of Woodbury; & Nieces, Ruth Ann (Dennis) Watts, Arlene (Dewey Barrett) Wilson, & Julie (David Speakman) Fitts.
Also surviving are several great nieces & nephews.

67 year old Cathy Fuson Frazier of Smithville died Monday at Newport Medical Center in Newport, Tennessee. She was a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church and was a retired Special Education Supervisor with the DeKalb County School System. Frazier was a 1965 graduate of DeKalb County High School. She received a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Psychology from Tennessee Tech University and earned an Ed.S Degree in Special Education. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-9 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. Frazier was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Carrie Graham Fuson; darling daughter, Claudette Lasser; two sisters, Paulette “Poppy” Keith and Dianna Carter; brother-in-law, Ronnie Carter; nephew, Ronald Frazier; and father and mother-in-law, Jim Roy and Audrey Frazier. Loretta Morris Dodd, age 80, of Woodbury passed away Friday, June 19, 2015 at Trust Point Hospital. She was a native of Cannon County.
Survivors include her daughters, Rose Lee Nokes of Liberty, Connie (Gail) Dodd, Paulette (Steven) Osment, & Kendall Denise (Mark) Duggin, all of Woodbury; Brother, Leon (Audrey) Morris of Murfreesboro; Sisters, Shirley (Earl) St. John of Hermitage, Mary Wiley Gunter, Jeanette (Donald) Barrett, & Linda Lou (Dickey) Bedwell, all of Woodbury; Grandchildren, Ricky Nokes, Tracy & Terry Hill, Cory Chapman, Brent, Brian, & Katelyn Duggin; Great-Grandchildren, Kenny Fults, Keauna Nokes, Chloe Hill, Morgan Hale, & Klayton Chapman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gribble & Esta Lee Bogle Morris; Husband, Kenneth Dodd; and Granddaughter, Candace Dodd.
Ms. Dodd was a member of the Gassaway Church of Christ and was a Homemaker.

Dan Randolph age 63 of Smithville passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 17, 2015 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Dan was born August 29, 1951 in Springfield, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Margaret Holdren Randolph and 1 granddaughter, Casaundra Maple. Dan was very active in the Boy Scouts having served as troop leader and in other capacities and he loved playing music. Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Randolph of Smithville; 3 children, Ruth (Randy) Maple of Smithville; Adam and Glenn (Donna) Randolph of Murfreesboro; 4 step-children, Jason Grisham, Jamie Grisham and Jeffrey Grisham all of Smithville and Marsha Bush of Gordonsville; 8 grandchildren, 7 step-grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Tim “Sweet” Cantrell age 56 of Smithville, passed away Wednesday June 17, 2015 at his residence. Tim was born June 2, 1959 to his parents, the late Talmadge and Edith Jones Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Jack Pugh. He was a Presbyterian and was the activities coordinator with NHC. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Jackie Cantrell of Smithville; daughter, Abby Cantrell of Smithville; step-daughter, Stephanie Kirby of McMinnville; brother, Wayne (Harriett) Cantrell of Smithville; mother-in-law, Ruth Pugh of Smithville; niece, Elise (Jay) Driver of Smithville; nephew, Garth Cantrell of Smithville and several cousins also survive.
