Colten Alexander May, 23 month infant of Smithville passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015. Colten was born June 10, 2013 in Cookeville. He is survived by his loving family and friends. There will be a private graveside service held for Colten at the Pitt Cemetery in College Grove, TN. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Lewis Foster
85 year old Lewis Foster of Smithville died Tuesday at NHC of Smithville. He was a member of the Allen’s Chapel Methodist Church and the United Auto Workers. He was also retired from the Ford Motor Company. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Cora Taylor Foster; his wife; sister, Mary Frances Foster; two brothers, Toy B. and Lee Foster; and a sister, Viola Johnson. Survivors include a daughter, Dr. Donna Foster Swain of Moscow, Tennessee and a step-daughter, Doretta Hutchins of Smithville. A grandson, Hunter Swain of Denver Colorado and step-grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Hutchins of Smithville and Jeretta Certain of Murfreesboro. Dr. Melvin Lee Blevins
66 year old Melvin Lee Blevins, M.D. of Smithville died Sunday. He was a Christian and a physician and certified medical doctor. Dr. Blevins was a member of the DeKalb County Medical Society, American Medical Association, Tennessee Medical Association, Tennessee Academy of Family Practice, American Academy of Family Practice, and the American Medical Directors Association. A memorial service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Edward Lee and Marie Dorothy Durham Blevins. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Jo Ann “Jody” Blevins of Smithville. Four children, Jefry Vincent Overall and Donna Sue Overall of McMinnville, Michael Edward Blevins and wife Jill Ellen Blevins of Bozeman, Montana, Justin Lee Blevins and Shannon Nicole Brinkley of Portland, Oregon and Patrick Nelson Blevins and Margaret Taylor Stump of Portland, Oregon. Six grandchildren, Adain Kane Overall, Alec Pierre Vilain, Hillary Summers Blevins, Lilyanna Justine Blevins, Casey Ellen Handsaker, Jexx Lee Blevins, and Soleil Blevins expected July 22, 2015. Two brothers, Clarence Norman Blevins and wife Martha Blevins of Trion, Georgia and Jerry Don Blevins and wife LaJaun Blevins of South Pittsburgh, Tennessee. Jared Scott Atnip
Jared Scott Atnip age 34 of Smithville passed away Friday afternoon at Parkridge Medical Center in Chattanooga. He was born Nov. 27, 1980 to his parents, Dr. Robert and Guylene Mathis Atnip. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Dr. Norman and Jeanette Atnip, maternal grandmother, Thelma Belle Mathis. Jared grew up attending the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church and his testimony was that he was saved at the age of 12 at the Smithville First Baptist Church and worked in the family’s Chiropractor Office. He is survived by his parents, Dr. Robert and Guylene Atnip of Smithville; 1 son, Ari Scott of Smithville; 2 sisters, Lisa (Greg) Tramel and Tara Atnip both of Smithville; 1 brother, Robert “Bob” Atnip, Jr. of Delray, FL; maternal grandfather, Guy Mathis of Liberty; 2 uncles, Dr. Max (Patti) Atnip of Cookeville, Van (Debbie) Mathis of Liberty; 1 aunt, Patricia (Odie) Tallent of Smithville; 2 nephews, Chase (Meghan) Tramel of Nashville and Caleb (Hillary) Tramel of Yuma, AZ; 2 nieces, Preston Grace Summers and Jessica Lauren Gribble of Smithville; great-niece, Callen Alizabeth Tramel and several cousins and friends. Aaron Cope
COPE, Aaron, age 82, passed away on May 13, 2015 at his home in McMinnville, Tennessee. Mr. Cope was the former owner of the Love-Cantrell-Cope Funeral Home in McMinnville for 37 years and the Aaron Cope Trucking Company for over 30 years. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Exchange Club and the Central Church of Christ of McMinnville. Mr. Cope was preceded in death by his parents, the late Taylor Cope and Dola West Cope; brother, Arbis Cope; and sisters, Elvie Reeder, Joyce Dean and Ruby Cope. Mr. Cope is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Reva Joyce Lynn Cope of McMinnville, TN; son, Thomas L. Cope of McMinnville, TN; a beloved granddaughter, Chelsea Cope Hobbs and her husband Zack of California; two grandsons, Brandon Bouldin and Brett Bouldin and his wife Cynthia both of McMinnville, TN; two great-grandchildren, Silas Bouldin and Kilby Lynn Bouldin both of McMinnville, TN; sisters, Robbie Robinson of Lebanon, TN, Nina Gentry and her husband Jimmy, and Linda Calvert and her husband Edward of Indianapolis, IN; caregivers, Teresa Pitts and Angel Lance; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. Buddy Otis Bain, Jr.
71 year old Buddy Otis Bain, Jr. of Alexandria died Tuesday at UMC Hospital in Lebanon. He was an employee of the TVA Gallatin Steam Plant and a member of the Malone’s Chapel Baptist Church, a member of Alexandria Lodge #175, and the U.S. Army Otter Caribou Association. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and served as an Aviation Mechanic in the 1st Aviation Brigade. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Bill Shaw will officiate and burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 2-8 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buddy Bass Bain and Mattie Bell Dodd; and a brother, William Andy Bain. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Patricia Ann Fitts Bain of Alexandria. Sons, Buddy Gordon Bain of Alexandria and Bobby Anthony and Shannon Bain of Lebanon. A brother, Don Bain (Monk) of Alexandria. James Kenneth Tatrow
67 year old James Kenneth Tatrow of Michigan died Friday. He served in the Vietnam war as a Marine. He was also a truck driver and a baptized member of the United Methodist Church in Keltonburg, A memorial service will be Sunday, May 17 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, May 17 from noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his dad, Robert Kenneth “Cooney” Tatrow; sons, Robert Anthony and Robin Scott Tatrow; a brother, Danny Craven Tatrow; and two sisters, Debora Tatrow and Joyann Tatrow. Survivors include his mother, Eva Lois Tatrow of Garden, Michigan. His wife, Debbie Tatrow of Garden, Michigan, A son, James Christopher Tatrow of Tiptonville, Tennessee. A daughter, Christel Dawn Tatrow of Murfreesboro. Four grandchildren, Christopher Brock Tatrow, James Clinton Tatrow, Mikayla Dawn Hendrixson, and Alyssa Dawn Roller. Two great grandchildren, Brian Christopher Tatrow and Colton Brock Tatrow. Three brothers, Gordon “Bucky” and wife Brenda Tatrow of Smithville, Kevin and wife Debbie Tatrow of Garden, and Keith Tatrow of Garden. Louise Brown
Louise Brown age 86 of Smithville passed away Monday morning at her residence. She was born March 16, 1929 to her parents, the late Charles B. and Mary Broughton Fleming. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walton Brown; 2 brothers, Charles B. Fleming, Jr. and Dale Raymond Fleming. Ms. Louise was a woman that feared and loved the Lord and was a member of the Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was a caregiver and retired from Justin Potter Library. Survivors include 4 daughters, Ginny (Robert) Winger, Sarah (Billy) Warren, Esther (Jack) Holder and Lydia (Tim) Holmes all of Smithville; 12 grandchildren, Robert Winger, Ryan Winger, Kimberly (Arik) Purpura, Beth (B.J.) Thomason, J.W. Goodman, Misty (Caisson) Martin, Melissa Hale, Matthew (Lindsey) Holmes, Daniel (Brooke) Holmes, Heather Holder, Trena Holder, Jackie (Josh) Hamby; 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren. 89 year old Dorothy Crook Truitt of Liberty died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker and a 60 year member of Prosperity Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard Crook and Birdie Martin; sisters, Johnnie Fugitt and Willa Mary Martin; and brothers, Ernestine Crook and John Crook. 86 year old Hoyte Groom Garrison of Alexandria died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a feed store owner and a longtime member and former deacon of Salem Baptist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 3:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church. Stephen Grubbs and Graden Kirksey will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-8 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time. All visitation will be at Salem Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, John William Garrison and Nannie Watson; a son, William Timothy Garrison; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Delton and Ruth Vanatta. He is survived by his wife of 54 1/2 years, Wilma Lucille Garrison of Alexandria. A son Ronald Hoyte and wife Lisa Garrison of Smithville. Grandchildren, Rachel Elizabeth Garrison and Jessica Brooke Garrison of Smithville and soon to be grandson, John Ethan Hale of Alexandria.
