Johnnie H. Martin

Mr. Johnnie H. Martin age 66 of Smithville, passed away Saturday March 28, 2015 at his residence. He was born September 22, 1948 to his parents, the late George and Virginia Raper Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Cantrell Martin and brother, Danny R. Martin. Johnnie attended Temple Baptist Church, he was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired factory worker. He is survived by 7 children, Brandie White of Sparta, Vanessa Cunningham of Tullahoma, Tess Bafford of Sparta, Jenny Kelly of McMinnville, Cindy Neely of Columbia, Carrie Hale of Smithville and Brandon Cantrell of Smyrna; 11 grandchildren, Johnathan and Alyssa White, Layla Cunningham, Nick Waycaster, Devin and Will Bafford, Misty Breedlove, Kyla Morgan, Elanna, Bonnie and Tyler Hale; 3 great-grandchildren, Tanner, Hayden, and Easton; 2 sisters, Becky Fay Bost and Susan Briest both of McMinnville; 1 brother, Larry Joe Martin of McMinnville. Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Jarvis Johnson and Shannon Cantrell officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery with military honors. Visitation with the family will be on Monday 1:PM until 8:PM and Tuesday 10:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy Jean Kernagis

64 year old Dorothy Jean Kernagis of Smithville died Saturday at her residence. She was a member of the Family Harvest Church of God and worked for Helton, Incorporated. A memorial service will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. at the Family Harvest Church of God. Justin McCulley will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Morris and Patricia Frazier and a daughter, Stacey Redmore Grisham. Survivors include a brother, Eddie and wife Bridget Morris of Colorado. Two daughters, Marie Powell of Illinois and Rebecca Redmore of Morrison. Two sons, William and Traci Frazier of McMinnville and Kevin and Karri Redmore of Smithville. Mary West Curtis

91 year old Mary West Curtis died March 27 at Spring City Care & Rehab in Spring City, TN following an extended illness. She was a McMinnville resident and native of Warren County.
She was a homemaker, and in her retirement years, a school cafeteria monitor where she befriended many children, teachers and staff. An active member of the First Baptist Church until her illness, she was the daughter of the late Hester L. and Daisy Cantrell West. She was married to T.J. Curtis who preceded her in death in 1984. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by brother, I.D. West; and two sisters, Willie Mae Cates and Virginia Beckwith.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Trevathan Landreth and Harry Landreth of Spring City, TN and Susan Stewart Wideman and Dave Wideman of McMinnville; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Jeremy and Maggie Stewart of Malibu, CA, Justin and Beth Stewart of McMinnville, Allison and Brandon Lowry of Chattanooga, TN and Callie McNamee of Murfreesboro, TN; 4 step-grandchildren, Michelle and Doug Jones of Cookeville, TN, Doug Landreth of Navarre, FL, Susan and Rich Everitt of Augusta, GA and David and Denise Landreth of Savannah, TN; 9 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Martin of McMinnville; and two brothers, Luther West of McMinnville and Tom West of Huntsville, AL.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 30, 2015 in High’s Chapel with Dave Wideman, Allison Lowry and Brandon Lowry officiating. Burial will follow in Whorton Springs Cemetery, Smithville, TN. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday at High’s.

Danny Steve Stewart

67 year old Danny Steve Stewart of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam Veteran and a member of the Emmanuel Bread of Life. He was also retired from Star Manufacturing. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.. Dr. Doretta Hutchins will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Frank James and Allene Ames Stewart and two brothers, Ronnie and Ralph Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Hill Stewart of Smithville. Two daughters, Stephanie and Chad Edens of Woodbury and Jamie and Ralph West of Rock Island. Two sons, Craig Hill of Smithville and Kyle Hill of Michigan. Five grandchildren, Kyleigh Hill of Smithville, Fletcher Moore, Emma Edens, and Graham Edens all of Woodbury, and Easton West of Rock Island. One sister, Dail and Gary Simons of McMinnville. Four brothers, Frank W. and Kaye Stewart of McMinnville, Roger and Glenda Stewart of McMinnville, Linsey and Regina Stewart of Beersheba Springs, and Melvin and Tammy Stewart of Nashville. Danny Gibbs

Mr. Danny Gibbs age 65 of Liberty, passed away Sunday night at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was born July 6, 1949 to his parents, the late Carl and Geneva Walden Gibbs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Reynolds. Danny was a member of the Dowelltown Baptist Church and a construction worker. He enjoyed fishing. Danny is survived by 4 children, Melissa (Terry) Hicks of Liberty, Michelle Anderson of Smithville, Becky (Jessie) Thomas of Dowelltown and Daniel Gibbs and Carol Tipton of McMinnville; 7 grandchildren, Carl Cantrell, Shea Hicks, Tiffany Anderson, Josh Anderson, Nathan Pack, Hope Thomas, Christopher Gibbs; 3 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Cayden and Brantley Anderson; 5 sisters, Jewel (Bobby) Ponder of Smithville, Dette Shelton, Alma (Jerry) Montgomery and Ruby Reynolds all of Dowelltown and Irene (James) Jennings of Nashville; 2 Brothers, Carl, Jr. (Betty) Gibbs of Lebanon and Billy (Shirley) Gibbs of Dowelltown. Melvin Daniel

65 year old Melvin Daniel of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a long time member of the Mt. Moriah The Baptist Church and a retired employee of Carrier. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, Phocean and Jean Fults Daniel and father and mother-in-law, Alvie and Lawanda Herman. Survivors include his wife, Judy Daniel of Smithville. Two daughters, Amanda and Scott South of Smithville and Breeann and Chad Hale of Woodbury. Three grandchildren, Avery and Gracin South of Smithville and Shelby Grace Hale of Woodbury. Brother-in-law, Sam Herman of Liberty and several nieces and nephews. Mildred Carlene Henley Graves

Mrs. Mildred Carlene Henley Graves passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, March 19, 2015, after a long illness.
Born on August 31, 1918 in Alexandria, Tennessee to parents Carl Rutland and Lois Emeline Evans Henley, the second of nine children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Berry Graves; grandson, Kenny Robinson; son-in-law, Kent Robinson; sisters, Mable (Floyd) Owen, Maureen (Lloyd) Sims, Charlotte White; brothers, Robert (Catherine) Henley, Samuel (Sara) Henley; brother-in-law, Howard Beadle.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Larry) Wright, Joyce Robinson, Dora Arnold and Nancy (Steve) Jones. In addition, she is survived by grandchildren, Jeff (Nicole) Wright, Kimberly Griffin, Dustin (Julie) Jones, Christopher (Lindsay) Arnold, Linsley (Matthew) Langley; great-grandchildren, Stephanee, Jenna, and Lydia Wright, Ashleigh (Andy) Snow, Glenna Beaty, Caden and Lila Jones, and Maria Arnold; sister, Margaret Beadle; brothers Russell (Lore) Henley and Gerald (Jo) Henley, brother-in-law Henry White, great-great grandchildren, Haylee and Baylee Killian and Adelynn Snow and several nieces and nephews.
She was a long time member of Fairview Baptist Church where she taught the Friendship Sunday School Class for 50 years.
Mildred was a sweet, humble, kind person that will be missed and was loved by all that knew her. She loved her family dearly and was a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-great Grandmother.
Mildred retired after 25 years from Precision Rubber Products Accounting Department.
She was one of 37 graduates of Watertown High School, Class of 1937.
Her remains rest at Ligon & Bobo Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Lebanon, where funeral services will be held Monday, March 23, 2015, at 11 a.m. with Christopher Arnold officiating. Interment – Wilson County Memorial Gardens. Visitation Sunday 3-5 p.m. and Monday after 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mildred’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or PBS Channel 8 television.

John Raybon Cantrell

John Raybon Cantrell age 76 of the Lucky Community of Warren County, passed away Tuesday evening at his residence of a 10 month illness. He was born November 1, 1938 to his parents, the late John Lee and Carrie Leona Young Cantrell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Nell Fly, Janice Martin, Nancy Humphreys and Carmine Poss; 7 brothers, Jay, Joe, Morgan, Thaniel, Jewel, Prentice and Doyce Cantrell. John owned Eagle Creek Nursery and was a farmer and a Baptist. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Glenell “Nell” Cantrell of McMinnville; 4 daughters, Lisa (Jackie) Norton, Johnna (Danny) Goff, Lori (Alan) Webb all of Smithville and Penny Cantrell and friend Tracy Burch of McMinnville; 1 son, Shawn (Dohuna) Cantrell of McMinnville; 11 grandchildren, Jacob and Olivia Norton, Nicholas Goff, Anderson, Martha, Emily and Thomas Webb, Barry and Kalie Elrod, Shawna and Eli Cantrell; 2 sisters, Joan Harleson of Lebanon; Hilda (Floyd) Corley of Tullahoma; 3 brothers, Elmus (Gladys) Cantrell, Lewis (Wanda) Cantrell and McClure (Pam) Cantrell of Smithville; 2 sisters-in-law, France Cantrell of Gallatin and Wilma Jean Cantrell of Smithville; 4 bothers-in-law, Joe Fly of Hendersonville, Johnnie Martin of Smithville, Ronnie and Thomas Jones of McMinnville; Special Aunt, G. Gladys Alberta Byrd

Gladys Alberta Byrd age 82 of Dowelltown, passed away Monday afternoon at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. She was born August 22, 1932 to her parents, the late Jim and Mary Fannie Tribble Adamson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Byrd; son, Clay Melvin Byrd; 2 daughters, Vertrice Cook and Phyllis Dean (Marvin) Yaney; brother, Rudolph Adamson; daughter, Mary Adamson Petty. Ms. Alberta was a homemaker and a faithful Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. She set an amazing example of what it was to be a true Christian. She attended the Smithville First Assembly of God. Ms. Alberta is survived by 3 children, Jerry Byrd and Toledo Byrd McCloud both of Dowelltown and Forrest “Frosty” Byrd of Smithville; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive. 46 year old Vanessa Eve Langston of Sparta died Saturday at Highland Medical Center in Sparta. She was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and she worked at S&W. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Paran Cemetery in Overton County. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerold Langston. Survivors include two children, Rebecca and husband Jon Byford of Smithville and Jeff and wife Chrystal Flatt of Sparta. Three grandchildren, Autumn, Jazmine, and Trinity Byford of Smithville. Mother, Sandra Harp Humphrey and husband Linton. Sister, Ursula Turrington of Hawaii. Step-sister, Beth Holloway of Murfreesboro. Step-brother, Darin Humphrey.
