Mr. Russell Wayne “Butch” Hamm, Jr. age 65 of Gassaway passed away Sunday morning November 22, 2015 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. He was born August 20, 1950 in Bluefield, West Virginia to his parents the late, Russell Wayne and Roberta White Hamm, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 brother, James Hamm. Butch was a Methodist and a construction worker. In 1981, he moved his family to Tennessee where he has lived in the Gassaway community since. He was a carpenter since he was 12 years old. He was loved by many and will be extremely missed. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Karen Hamm of Gassaway; 2 daughters, Jenel Hill and Danielle Moseley both of Gassaway; 5 grandchildren, Roberta, Heather, Hailey, Eddie and Lavell; 1 sister, Debbie Hamm of Bear, Delaware; 1 brother, Danny Hamm of Newark, Delaware. There will be a family gathering to celebrate Butch’s Life on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 beginning at 5:PM at Butch and Karen’s home in Gassaway. Phillip Lee George
66 year old Phillip Lee George of Smithville died Saturday morning at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. He was a Veteran of the United States Marines who served in the Vietnam War. He was a Seventh Day Adventist and had 20 years of service with the Metro Nashville Parks and Recreations. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dennis Clark will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be Monday from 3-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis B. and Billie Sue McDowell George; grandparents, Aubrey and Mattie Braswell George; nephew, Matthew George; father and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Mitchel Walden; and three brothers-in-law, Kenneth, James, and Robert Harold (Bob) Walden. He is survived by his wife, Mary Susan George of Smithville. A son, Lewis Gilbert and wife Lidia George. Special son, Jeremy Allen. Brother, Gary and wife Lois George of Indiana and twin brother, Bill and wife Janice George of Mount Juliet. Four sisters-in-law, Helen and husband Wayne Cripps of Alexandria, Carolyn Walden of Alexandria, Marie Walden of Smithville, and Jackie Walden of Michigan. Several nieces and nephews also survive. 67 year old William Lloyd Black, Jr. of Smithville died Saturday at NHC of Smithville. A Methodist, Black was a Medical Technologist for Dr. Denise Dingle and had served 25 years as a Medical Technologist for Dr. Melvin Blevins. He was also a member of Liberty Masonic Lodge. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will be Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Vann Woodside age 87 of Dowelltown passed away Thursday night at his residence surrounded by his family. Vann was born February 24, 1928 to his parents, the late Hobart and Mary C. Grandstaff Woodside. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 1 grandson, Matthew Neal Vickers; 2 sisters, Mitchel Walden and Dorothy Hancock; 1 brother, O.T. Woodside. He was a faithful member and Deacon of Dowelltown Baptist Church, a U.S. WWII Army Veteran, member and past Master of DeKalb Lodge #358 and retired from TRW Ross Gear. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Billie Woodside of Dowelltown; 3 children, Vicki (Russell) Vickers of Dowelltown, Craig Woodside of Smithville and Jeff Woodside of Dowelltown; 5 grandchildren, Natalie (Brian) Page of Cookeville, Holly Wood of Smithville, Pat Woodside of Knoxville, Brooke Woodside Johnson of Smithville and Kevin Woodside of Murfreesboro; 3 great-grandchildren, Eliana Page, Patrick Woodside, III, and Jaden Johnson; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Lorene Arnold Chasteen, 83, passed away Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015 at St. Thomas Rutherford.
She is survived by her husband, Wilburn Chasteen of Winchester; 4 children, Billy (Kay) Arnold, Tammie Arnold both of Smyrna, Rita Arnold Vance of Murfreesburo and Tony (Jenni) Arnold of Woodbury; 2 grandsons, Ronnie Arnold of Nashville and Bradley Vance of Murfreesboro; and 1 great-grandson, Elijah Vance of Murfreesboro.
Mrs. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Roscoe and Effie Agnes Buckner Pedigo; her son, Larry Arnold; 3 brothers, Edward, Norville, and Aaron Pedigo; and 3 sisters, Kenzada Summar, Oddell Summar, and Francis Bandy.
She was a member of the Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress with Colonial Corp. and a custodian with MTSU.
Funeral services will be 1 pm Saturday, November 21, 2015 in the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Danny Bandy officiating. Interment will follow at Pedigo Cemetery in Dekalb Co. Visitation with the family will be from 4 pm until 8 pm Friday, November 20, 2015 and 10 AM until time of service Saturday.

83 year old Lois Ruth (Wilson) Lankford of Smithville died Wednesday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church and a retired Walmart Door Greeter. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie D. He was born July 2, 1961 to his parents, the late Alfred Kenneth and Thelma Jean Lawson Herman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sons, Kenny Herman, Jr. and Brian Curtis Herman; 1 sister Lisa Mingus; 1 brother, James Eddie Herman. He was affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ and a nursery worker. He is survived by 3 sisters, Patricia (Jerry) Lawson of Smithville; Brenda (Stevie) Cripps of Smithville; Frances (Joel) Adcock of McMinnville; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Timmy George, Kathy Morris, Cory Winchester. She was a member of the Believers Tabernacle and a homemaker. Brenda Puckett Vanderpool of Smithville passed away Tuesday morning at St. Thomas West Hospital in Nashville. She was born December 29, 1946 to her parents, the late Houston and Myrtis Moore Puckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Vanderpool and 1 brother, Marvin Puckett. Brenda was a faithful member and Sunday School teacher at the Smithville Church of God and was retired from retail sales and a homemaker. She is survived by 2 children, Reed (Julia) Vanderpool of Smithville and Melissa (Philip) Wallace of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Emily, Harper, and Liam Wallace and Julian Vanderpool; 1 brother, Darwin (Delores0 Puckett of Lebanon; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beth Puckett of Smithville, Wanda (Ray) Dunham, Jr. of Dowelltown, Rodney (Phyllis) Vanderpool of Centertown and Lorraine Webb of Nashville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Leroy Goff, 89, of Smithville and formerly of Baxter will be held Sunday, November 15 at 1 PM in the chapel of Presley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Goff Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 PM to 8 PM and Sunday 11 AM until service time at the funeral home.
Mr. Goff passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 in Smithville.
He is survived by five daughters, Chris Moore, Leisa Young, Gay Lafever, Robin Beckham, and Pam Langford. Four sons, Gary, Dale, Mike, and Danny Goff.
