Ruby Pauline Johnson

Ruby Pauline Johnson age 89 of Smithville passed away Thursday afternoon at NHC HealthCare in Smithville. Ruby was born January 4, 1926 to her parents, the late Ewin and Ada Hicks, Sr.. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Johnson; 2 sisters, Eva Jean Hicks and Virginia Atnip; 1 brother, Ewin Hicks, Jr.; grandparents, Ace and Frances Adamson, Will and Fannie Hicks. Ruby was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a childcare giver and was affectionately known to many of the kids as “Aunt Ruby”. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Glenda Johnson of Liberty; 5 grandchildren, Nioakah (Shane) Hickman of Smithville, Nicholas Johnson, Noah Johnson, Nautica Johnson and Brandon Sykes all of Liberty; 1 great-granddaughter arriving soon; 2 brothers, Tom Hicks of Lebanon and Bill Hicks of Georgia; 1 sister, Doris Hullett of McMinnville; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Sunday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Dan Mallette and Michael Hale officiating and interment to follow at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be on Saturday 12 Noon until 8:PM and Sunday 9:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Cleta Faye (Redmon) Murphy

56 year old Cleta Faye (Redmon) Murphy of Smithville died Friday at St. Thomas Mid Town Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of the New Life Pentecostal Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dewayne Cornelius will officiate and burial will be in the Young Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from noon until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Everett “Ebb” Redmon; her husband, Michael Murphy; and a sister, Annie Rhea Johnson. Survivors include a daughter, Camillia and husband Nicholas Ramsey of Dowelltown. Parents, Ernestine and Eddie Young of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Kaydence Johnson, Zoie and Raylin Ashburn, and Faith Knowles. Four brothers, Tommy and Glenda Redmon, and Noel and Sabra Redmon all of Smithville, Ronnie, Sr. and Judy Redmon of Dowelltown and Eddie Young, Jr. of Cookeville. Two sisters, Angela and Ricky Knowles of Smithville and Sherry and Alonzo Harris of Virginia. Nieces and nephews, Eric Morris, Trista Johnson, Avionda Harris, Patty Hale, Joey Redmon, Ronnie Redmon, Jr., Randy Johnson, Makayla Redmon, Joshua Johnson, Amy Ferrell, and Ashmika Earl. Nineteen great nieces and nephews survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. William Earl Sowell

79 year old William Earl Sowell of Alexandria died Friday at his residence. He was an automotive shop manager for K-mart, a Baptist, and a U.S. Navy veteran. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Visitation will be Sunday from noon until 6 p.m. Sowell was preceded in death by his father, Rex. Brothers, Ray, Jackie, Raymond, and Ricky and Paul. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Norma Sowell of Alexandria. Children, Diane Patton of Alexandria, Jeanie Johnson of Alexandria, Marilyn Keaton of Smithville, Bill and wife Angela Sowell of Norene, Randy and wife Susan Sowell of Alexandria, and Bobby and wife Kim Vickers of Alexandria. Grandchildren, Rodney Patton of Murfreesboro, Will Sowell of Smithville, Bailey Sowell and Jazmine Sowell of Norene, Destiny Jarboe of Kentucky, Colton Vickers and Kirsten Vickers of Alexandria. Edna (Mama) Taylor

91 year old Edna (Mama)Taylor of Smithville died Thursday at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. She was a Baptist and was retired from the Smithville Shirt Factory. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Danny Bandy and Barry Whitaker will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gertrude White Massey; the father of her children, E.J. Taylor; a son, Kenneth Taylor; two granddaughters, Cindy Armour and Dana Malone; one sister, Ruby Buhlea; and six brothers, J.B., Clint, Marvin, Joe, Leonard, and Charles Massey. Two daughters, Betty Cooper and Fiance Bill Bohana of Smithville and Doris and husband Wayne Malone of Dowelltown; two sons, Austin and wife Billie Ann Taylor and Bobby Taylor all of Smithville. One sister, Ruth and husband George Givins of Lebanon. One brother, Henry Massey of Kentucky. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, and nine great great grandchildren. Elaine “Baney” Hendrix

Elaine “Baney” Hendrix age 61 of the Belk Community passed away Monday, November 2, 2015 at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital ER. She was born August 12, 1954 to her parents, the late Polk Alvin and Mable America Carter Wiggins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Janet, Patricia and Deborah and 1 brother, Troy Lynn Wiggins. Elaine was a member of the Church of God family, and lived her whole life as a homemaker and a nurserywoman. The last few years helping raise her 4 beautiful grandchildren, Jeremy, Jacob, Jazmine and Justin Wagner. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Jim Hendrix of Smithville; 1 son, Jamie (Katie) Hendrix of Williamson Co., TN; 1 daughter, Wendy (Tim) Wagner of Smithville; 1 sister, Catherine Berdine and 3 brothers, Michael Wiggins, Scotty Wiggins and Cleve (Helen) Wiggins all of Roane and Morgan Counties. And a host of nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed by all. Funeral services will be conducted 1:PM Thursday, November 5, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Roy O. Crymes

Mr. Roy O. Crymes age 84 of Smithville passed away Saturday morning at St. Thomas DeKalb Hospital. Mr. Crymes was born March 12, 1931 to his parents the late Theodore and Zelma Scott Crymes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Crymes; 1 sister, Mabeline Rourke; 2 brothers, Melvin and James Crymes. He was a Pentecostal, retired from the U.S. Air Force with of 20 years of service to our country and then also retired from Southeastern Telecom in Nashville. Survivors include 3 children, Kathy Matthews of Goodlettsville, Billy Crymes of Smithville and Penny Arnold of Dickson; 3 grandchildren, Leslie Kopischke, Haven Boyles and Peyton Arnold; 1 brother, William Crymes of South Carolina and 1 sister, Katherine Miles of Madison. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 PM Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Rodger Thaxton officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with full military honors. Mary Brown Certain

Mary Brown Certain age 78 of Liberty passed away Saturday morning, October 31, 2015 at NHC HealthCare Center of Smithville. She was born November 17, 1936 to her parents, the late Troy Brown and Minnie Mai Vanatta Herman. Mary Brown was retired from Kingston Timers and was a faithful member of the Liberty United Methodist Church and was a member of the Alexandria Senior Citizens. She is survived by 1 son, Terry (Jerretta) Certain of Murfreesboro; 3 grandchildren, Josh (Andrea) Certain, Joel Certain, Grace Certain; 2 great-grandchildren, Joshua Certain, Jr., Trinity Certain; 1 brother, Eddie (Linda) Herman of Sparta. Funeral services will be conducted 1:PM Monday at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bros. Wilson Williams and Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in Salem Cemetery. Tacy Lynn Hendrixson

Tacy Lynn Hendrixson age 31 of Smithville passed away Wednesday from injuries received in an automobile accident. Tacy was a homemaker and attended the Bethel United Methodist Church. Tacy is survived by her husband, Nelson Hendrixson of Smithville; 5 children, Caitlyn Clouse, Megan Hendrixson, Krissy Hendrixson, Emily Hendrixson and Tyler Woody; mother, Sherry Rankhorn of McMinnville; father, Rex (Renee) Clouse of Sparta; God-mother, Lori Driver of Smithville; sister, Kira Clouse of McMinnville; maternal grandmother, Jan Grissom of McMinnville; several aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be conducted 2:PM Friday, October 30, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. V L Baker and Everett Wilson officiating and burial to follow in the Clouse Family Cemetery in White County. Visitation with the family will be on Friday 9:AM until the time of the service at 2:PM. Aileen Clark

Aileen Clark age 89 of Smithville passed away Wednesday morning, October 28, 2015 at Upper Cumberland Hospice House in Cookeville. She was born April 26, 1926 to her parents, the late Benjamin and Nora McNew Tate. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lindell Clark and 9 brothers and sisters. Ms. Clark was a bookkeeper, having worked for Middle Tennessee Natural Gas for 16 years, she was a faithful member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church. Survivors include 2 children, Dr. Dennis (Cathy) Clark of Gutherie, OK; Linda (Ronnie) Hawkins of Smithville; 4 grandchildren, Carmen (Don) Bond, Darin (Holly) Clark, Charma (Phillip) Cripps, Chris (Breanna) Hawkins; 6 great-grandchildren, Ellie and Hattie Bond, Harper and Hayes Clark, Clay and Clint Hawkins; several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:AM Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Smithville First United Methodist Church with Bro. John Carpenter and Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. Graveside services and interment will be 2:PM Tuesday November 3, 2015 at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Newton, IL with Dr. Dennis Clark officiating. 25 year old Torrey William Hale of Alexandria died Friday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was a miner/blaster. A memorial service will be held at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria on Sunday, November 1 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Shayne Ray will officiate. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Hale of Alexandria. Children, Emma Hale, Abigail Boles, Colton Hale, and Brinley Hale.
